Cleaning your fish tank

fish in the pond in the park

I do not think anyone would say cleaning their fish tank is a favorite job. Every year the city pays a fish farm to come in and drain the pond, collect and save the fish, and clean it all up. It is unfortunate, but a lot of litter as well as natural debris collects in this pond. Park department does skim it out. This is a major task. The fish that you can see in my picture may be kind of young. Often they are twice this size. They will grow to fit their environment. I also have no doubt that sometimes people tire of being goldfish parents and give the little ones their freedom. The way I understand it they will acclimate to the pond. When I arrived to take pictures this school of fish was clustered around the air bubbler in the pond. It keeps the oxygen levels up, even when it is hot and not as good for the fish. I am sure they appreciate it.

@TiarasOceanView When I was really little my grandmother had a gold fish pond. We got to go throw a scoop of oatmeal to them in the morning. . . uncooked oats. I am sure they got lots of insects and such as well.

I have a pond in the garden and I know how annoying is the task to clean it and it must be done several times during summer.

@GardenGerty I have to clean the pond, but until we have thunderstorms every day it is too dangerous to work near the water.

I have a fish tank here. I wanted to keep it, but I am tired of looking at it. I think I am cleaning and selling it, however, scraping the scale off..and rinsing it out is a big job. Sigh!

Oh they would not come to your house to clean tanks. This is a contract with the park department as they are the only place that can take care of the fish when the water is removed.

They must be needing the oxygen to be clustered in one area, I have never had a fish tank, I prefer animals that return affection lol

We used to have an aquarium and it was a job cleaning it out. That would be a task to clean a pond.

The best thing about the aquarium is using the water to feed my plants. Yes, the pond is a big undertaking.
