Eeeeek!

Doodles, the cat, caught a mouse in the pachysandra near the woods in our backyard last Saturday, while our son babysat him during our trip to Boston.
This afternoon I was out with him for a walk, when our cleaning woman came outside to say she was done. I had her watch Doodles, while I ran into the house to get money to pay her.
I returned to hear her screaming. Doodles caught another mouse and was so proud. Thank goodness my husband pulled into the driveway just then. Of course he thanked Doodles and told him he was a good boy. He did have to shout at him to drop it, however, when Doodles tried to bring it into our nice, clean house.
Oh, eeeek! Has a pet ever tried to bring something disgusting into your home?

I do remember an occasion when the cat from next door brought us a mouse. Loved Oliver dearly... but the mouse... not so much!

No pet but my fiancé said he may have seen a mouse in the house. We set a sticky trap just encase!

I believe I do recall one pet that we had years ago doing that.
The cat never brought it in the house, but would leave it on the doorstep

@TiarasOceanView Holy cow!!!!!!! I don't know which is worse. Having a snake slither over bare feet or having to cut it's head off! I'm terrified of snakes!

We did have a cat named Iggy (many years ago) that was a great mouser and would bring her captured treasures home with her. We got to a point where we always had to check her mouth before letting her in the house LOL Guess Doodles is doing his job of mousing too

Scream!!!! Not cute at all. Doodles came upon a garden snake, sniffed it, and backed up. When I saw it, I screamed like a lunatic and frightened Doodles. I told him that it was a big, bad snake and hissed. Now I just say, "No big bad snakes!" and hiss. He moves away from wherever he his, even if a snake isn't there.

@DianneN i read a discussion here that cats are not afraid of snakes. maybe that snake wanted to enter our house through the back door and the cat caught it.

Doodles is a very good cat
Perhaps he expects your praise rather than shouting at him to drop the mouse
I remember long time ago we had a good cat. One day he caught a mouse and then he brought to show us. Trust me my response was like yours. OK, he had a praise. Then my cat wanted to show off, he let the mouse go and then caught it again. That's more horrible for me
However, the last time the mouse really escaped and my cat was frozen there. Perhaps he had no idea where the mouse was
Then this is how a good cat turned to be a bad cat

Lol! I'm sure your cat was still a good cat. Would you believe Doodles just caught his third mouse? I saw the entire process. Thank goodness my husband was home to get rid of it. Unfortunately for Doodles, the mouse was bitten too hard to play with it anymore.

Doodles just wanted to bring his new toy into the house
.
I haven't written about it, but my daughter recently got a couple parakeets, so we finally have pets (and she is not allergic to them!). They don't roam freely outside, so I imagine they won't be like hawks to go hunting

I don't ever remember our cats bringing home mice that they caught, but it could have just been because my dad always got up hours earlier than the rest of the family, so he could have done damage control and gotten rid of the evidence before us kids could wake up and see. However, I did see our cats leaving lots of lizards, and an occasional bird at our doorstep!

@DianneN Oh, I am absolutely convinced my father hid most of the evidence left behind by our cats! We lived out in the middle of nowhere, so there there were lots and lots of wildlife for our cats to hunt!

Doodles caught a squirrel when he was younger and faster. He ate the head, beak and all, off his one and only bird. Both happened at my son's house. I'm sure your father protected you more than you know! Kitties are so proud of their lovely gifts for us. lol

They never brought them in the house, but my cat would line the walkway to the backyard every day with mice, She was obviously not Hungary but was happy to show off her work while I was in School.

That's funny. I was just talking about my friend's cat (who is also black cat though his name is Barry) - who Is aw hunt a mouse the other day. Ah yes, I think he means to bring you a "gift"... ugh, not the kind of gift we like though. One of my friend's cats brought her a skink in the house. (A really fast lizard like thing that we have here). Great.... lol

@DianneN Lol, at least that way you can screen Doodles's "gifts" or "hunting trophies" before coming in. Lol. Barry is a cute name... I love black cats. "Bridgette" my "houseguestcat" was also an all black kitty
