Favorite Number Songs #2 - "The Magnificent Seven"

I had to take a day off, but we are back with #2 in my Favorite Number Songs series, which is songs with numbers in the title (with the number spelled out.) Even better, @FourWalls is also doing the same countdown, doubling your numbers enjoyment! The second spot here belongs to "The Magnificent Seven" by The Only Band that Mattered, The Clash. London-based punk band, The Clash, were famous for incorporating other musical styles (reggae was a big one) into their punk sound. By the time of their fourth album, 1980's Sandinista!, they had become enamored with American hip hop groups such as Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five (Clash guitarist Mick Jones had even taken to carrying a boom box around with him,) so it was only natural that the band delved into rap. The result was the funky "The Magnificent Seven," the lyrics to which vocalist/guitarist Joe Strummer wrote on the spot. It wasn't one of the band's higher-performing songs, stalling at #34 in the UK (and the only US action was a #21 ranking on Billboard's Club Play Singles chart.) Of course, since it was The Clash, "The Magnificent Seven" has something to say. Hate the mundane, daily sameness of your job, working hard to make a rich guy more rich? This is for you. I've linked to the You Tube video that provides the lyrics. Enjoy! (Info verified by Wikipedia)

I could have saved myself some time by just typing that. And some people would have totally understood!

Awesome, very funky indeed, and funny how far back this subject goes back. Most do not even talk about this stuff these days.

@teamfreak16 indeed, sad to say., but keeps the punk songs coming I guess. What I always say, if we ever had a decent world, we would never have punk songs.

@crossbones27 - That's true. "Everything is groovy" is not the stuff of punk.

What Joe was saying still rings true. Nothing has changed.

Probably would not like this one, but I do like "Should I stay or Should I Go" and "London Calling." Sorry Scott, hip hop or reggae have little appeal for me On the bright side, you got your number song in and someone out there will like it. Fortunately for the artists, musical tastes vary or they would be out of a recording contract real fast!

That's the beauty of music, there's something for everyone. It would be quite boring if we all listened to the same thing!

Yeah, this song is okay. What an indictment of the working rut: "don't you ever stop long enough to start?" And, "It's no good for man to work in cages, he hits the town, he drinks his wages."
