An odd 4th of July for me this year

United States
July 2, 2017 5:38pm CST
Hi everyone, This will be an odd 4th for me in some ways. I am the first born child of Russian immigrants and for me, and for my family, the U.S was a bright light after war torn Europe. Those who know me, know that I am no fan of the Trump administration, nor the GOP. I am struggling to find something, some message of hope, to hang onto right now. But I am having difficulty. This is where I ended up in my search today. "Tyranny is defined as that which is legal for the government but illegal for the citizenry." Thomas Jefferson

Love the quote, and don't fret, by the end of summer I believe he will be forgotten history. One of the good things about camping is there is no news, I will enjoy no news and no electricity.

@divalounger every day he does something to raise the hair on the back of my neck. He needs to go and soon before he kills us all.

Beautiful quote and I totally agree with this quote. With those who lead think that they can do what the common citizens cannot, they are Dictators.

I'm not a fan of Trump either Audrey. But it's nice to know that tidbit about you. You're always most welcome here.

All four of my grandparents were Russian immigrants. I truly understand, but don't let it get you down.

I hope that you can find something to be hopeful about and be able to enjoy the holiday. I wish you all the best. I do not like Trump and I was born in the United States and I do love it though it is imperfect.

Thomas Jefferson should be here now! Imagine what he and others would have to say about all that is happening now @divalounger

So many of us are hoping that this trumped up presidency won't end up curtailing freedoms we all take for granted.

Me too--although I am not hopeful in that regard--the damage being done will take decades to undo if it is possible to do so

@just4him Or perhaps both of them--they are both hotheads in my opinion and so yes, the Korea matter is looming--and terrifying

@divalounger I don't think it's the presidency we need to worry about right now. It's North Korea.

That is a great quote. I say, get involved with something meaningful that makes your community a better place.Join with those who are going to elect the next better government. Or find another way to contribute; No matter how small that contribution is. When my late niece was going through Chemo, a group of volunteer came around and brought all of us tea and cookies on fine china. At the time, it was a small thing that was a bright spot in a dreary day of treatment. There are so many small things we can do to make the world a better place. Take care.
