I just couldn't understand why parents are not complaining to the headmaster of the school. There are 2 canteen vendors in my son's primary school. One side is selling noodles, breads, rice and sandwiches. Those are edible foods which are healthy and non healthy too. The other side is selling junk food as the photo taken, potato crisps at 30 cents per packet. There are more junk food that you can imagine such as jellies, chocolates, candies, ice-creams, sodas, soft drinks, chocolate cakes, salty snacks and many more which pupils could afford, below 50 cents. Some kids would even borrow money from my son to buy junk food. Why is the ministry of education allowing canteen to sell junk food when they are trying to curb obesity problem? Anyone can figure this out? picture taken and belonged to @peachpurple

Oh no, that's awful. Maybe you can bring up the concern to the PTA or something, as a start?

@peachpurple I'm sure they will. The actually should, since it's a matter of the children's health and well-being.

This should be stopped. No junk should be allowed in schools.

@peachpurple I wonder who won't be? It's about their kid's health, what is more important?

Here the foods are fixed by the primary school no matter you like the food or not. And there are no snacks at all unless you buy them outside after school. There are vending machines in my son's high school and they sell soda and something like potato chips. And the school canteens provide different food for lunch and they are nice in my opinion. Several months ago my son told me that the vending machines will not work any more. Namely the students can't buy any junk food in the school. I think it is good for students.

oh yes i agree with you. Let the vending machine stay that way. Yes there are junk food vendors outside the school, yet the headmaster isn`t doing anything

I agree with you but they are still selling from my school days until my son school days. Did your school sell junk food?

Parents are more health conscious today and aware of the danger of junk food to their children. You should get together with all the concern parents and petition the school admin regarding this problem.

@peachpurple Having some sort of evidence is better I feel, to show the authorities, fellow parents or anyone for that matter, to bring attention to this serious issue.

This a country well known for its healthy food but not any more. Selling soggy greasy chips here with other things that are fired and then warmed up over and over is not the ideal food fo ra child at all and not for anyone else. I saw in England that they were doing chips and then Shepherds Pie which has a lot of Potato in it anyway or cheese and potato pie which is even worse all on the same plate.

@peachpurple Not good at all is it? Way to stodgy and could make them constipaged also with so much starch. Okay if you have nothing else in that moment you can say yes to just once but every day is just way too much.

A lot of public and private schools here sell junk food in their school cafeteria. But that is unacceptable in my son's school. He goes to a private school and one of the school policies is for children not to bring junk food in school including food from the fast food chain. The cafeteria doesn't sell junk as well, it's strictly prohibited.

That is good practice. It helps to reduce obesity and to promote healthy eating habit.

I suppose because junk food is very inexpensive, but this is very bad. They should not let kids get bad habits.

You would think they would restrict the junk food to just one or two items. Kids will always buy junk food if it is available.

In the US, schools make money selling food and junk food is more profitable. Though many schools have eliminated junk food.
