Pick your battles

I heard this story about a stabbing two days ago at a local campground and the first story made it sound like there was some random stabbing. They gave no information about it other than one camper stabbed another.
Well this morning they are saying how the two men got into a verbal fight and then it turned physical and one guy stabbed the other in the end. Now it didn't say what they are fighting about but I'm guessing something that one could have walked away from or just let it go.
I always have said you got to pick your battles cause you never know what the other person is going to do. You have to defend yourself but you don't have to keep someone going, is there a chance to end it without violence?
I have no idea what they were fighting about but was it worth getting stabbed over? The guy got stabbed in the leg and he is going to be fine and they did arrest the guy who did the stabbing.
Everyone needs to calm down and stop with all the violence. Be safe out there , the world is full of crazy people, try not to be one of them.

"Peace is not absence of conflict, it is the ability to handle conflict by peaceful means." Quote from Ronald Regan and apropos here.
