The Alfred Hitchcock directed movie from the novel by Dame Daphne du Maurier. I love to watch this movie. The ancient, imposing mansion that is the backdrop for this gothic mystery thriller is glorious. Manderley is the beautiful west country estate.
I love the intro that draws the audience in so well with "Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again."
I also love how the mousy, helpless heroine goes from her weak character in the beginning as a lady's companion to the strength of a wife whose husband is in distress. Joan Fontaine does a marvelous job.
And who can write about this story without including Mrs. Danvers, the house keeper. She is obsessed with the memory of former Mrs. de Winter, Rebecca. Judith Anderson is the name of the actress who portrays this ....... so well.
Other actors in this piece are: Laurence Olivier(who plays the husband, Maxim de Winter), George Sanders(love him), and Nigel Bruce.
Spellbinding, captivating, suspenseful, and romantic this movie is one of David O. Selznick's best.

We've had a Hindi version of it, with twist in the story that has Mrs. Danvers killing Rebecca. I read the book really long ago, so I don't recall what the ending was. But the haunting hindi song in there gives me creeps even during day time. lol

Oh, not good writing to kill her after the change in her character. That's down right mean.

I bet the book probably would have been even better than the movie.

Same here, I loved all her books too and they seemed all to be done differently not like some authors now that you can guess the ending.
