Took 3 hours to boil Red Bean Soup!

I was extremely surprised that it took me 3 hours to boil read bean soup in a pressure cooker. By logic, a pressure cooker should be able to reduce the cooking time by half of the normal pot.
However, these red beans were still raw and hard when the pressure cooker was boiling them in an hour. Previously, I had soaked the raw red beans in a bowl with hot water overnight. This will help to soften the beans texture, but it did not.
May I know, what went wrong? Wasted 3 hours of gas consumption !

@prashu228 Yes and soak overnight or 6-8 hours minimum :)
I hope this helps you :)

The beans were either old or you had added salt to the water before boiling them. Both will lengthen the time it takes beans to cook. Soaking might have helped reduce the time a little but, basically, the older a bean is, the longer it will take to break down and become soft.

@peachpurple I don't know what effect sugar has when cooking beans. I do know that the older beans are, the longer they take to cook and that there is a point (I don't know when but it probably depends on storage conditions as well as age) when beans just will never soften completely..

@peachpurple The only explanation I can think of is that it was probably old and become very dry from the inside
