I am learning to use quinoa instead of rice.

There are several grains we have around that we don´t use because they don´t belong to our culture. Just like I met some veggies when I was grown up (like broccoli and eggplant) there are other ingredients that I now use a lot but were not on my grocery list years ago. Ginger is one of them. Today I read how to use quinoa. Even if it is frm the Andes, I have never tasted it. My eldest daughter brought me some a while ago and I will serve it as side dish for fish in a couple of days. Do you eat now some foods that were not in your diet years ago?

I gave away my rice cooker to my daughter. She needs it more than I do.

@FayeHazel I was given my rice cooker by the store where I bought my deep freeze. They took ages to take it here so I asked for the manager. He said he was very sorry and sent me the rice cooker as a present

@marguicha That was nice of you. I found my rice cooker at a garage sale for only a few dollars

Make sure you rinse the quinoa several times before cooking it. Otherwise it will taste like soap.

Nice. I want to try quinoa. I know it is considered a super food and has a host of benefits. What type of meals do you make with it?

I read at the internet today. You can even use it instead of cereals or granola. But I won´t do that as my own breakfast is coffee and some bread. But it can be used as a side dish to any sort of food made it with meat, chicken, fish or veggies.

Quinoa seems to be very popular but I've never had it. I do eat lots more fruits and veggies than I did years ago

I now eat more veggies than before but a lot less fruits that years ago, except during summer when I use fruits blended in juices and smoothies.

I have always some cooked rice in the fridge. It keeps for over a week. So I can give some to picky eaters should I have them.

I have heard about quinoa to be lot healthier than other cereals (the only exception being oats). And I think you should be more open to using them. As for me, I am travelling all the time so I try new kind of food wherever I go as long as it's vegan. I have tried star fruit, which is a rarity where I live. It wasn't on my diet before. It's a significant source of Vitamin C, so it's good for skin. The image above is that of a star fruit.

I saw that at the supermarket in Aruba. I eat lots of veggies (less fruit than when I was young), but I´m not vegetarian or vegan.

I don't mind quinoa. If I were living by myself, I could make some dietary changes. But it's rice, potatoes and pasta in my house. Stuff like quinoa and couscous? Every once in a while. But not regularly.

I will try it for the first time in a few days. I´m sure I will like it as I love the salmon I´ll eat it with.

I used quinoa once before. I used it to bread chicken nuggets. It doesn't really have a flavor to me at all. The nuggets I made just tasted like a chicken. I do see it used more in things like soups, casseroles, and stuff like that on Pinterest.
