Is It Me Or The Vacuum?

Is it me or the vacuum cleaner seems to be getting harder and harder to push. We have central vac but I have never liked the motor that we have to connect when we do the rugs. It is a very different one than we used to have in our other house years ago. That one was 1 brush and we just put a button to switch from floor to carpet. I know that I am not as strong as I used to be but this is getting on my nerves a lot. Now I have to go back and do more vacuuming and then a break and then another push. It will take me for ever to be finished. I think I might look into another system.

Time for an upgrade for sure. Maybe central vac needs to be done away with and get a regular vac.

I don't like our either but it's because of the hose... it's so long. Wish that they would provide you with multiple hoses so that you didn't have to lug them around with you. Just finished btw ;)

Yes, the hose is long and a pain in the neck to pull too. You lucky you! You are finished now. I still have to find the energy to get back to it.

@Susan2015 I never tripped over the house, not even once in all those years that I have owned a central/vac.

My vacuum is on wheels and has a long tube to hold for vacuuming makes it much easier than having to move the body around all the time. Hope you find a solution.

@shikharava I think the system is okay except the motor for the carpet is too heavy now for me.

@marlina yea, bud. It could be true. But I still feel it's the vac. I hope not there's a dust bunny controlling the internal circuitry! :)

@marlina It is the V6 Animal, it only weights 6 pounds. But the new V8 lasts a lot longer without a charge and I plan to get one of those soon and bring my V6 to Florida. It is so easy to use. I got mine from QVC.

I don't have a central vac system but am finding it harder and harder to push my Dyson around the house. I also need something that is a bit lighter in weight but still does a good job.

So I guess the Dyson is kind of heavy too. I find it so frustrating that people can figure out how to land on the moon, but can't NEVER get to make an EXCELLENT vacuum cleaner.

@Maluse A central vacuum system is built into the house as it is built. There is one large vacuum motor in its own room with a "catcher" receptacle. Each room of the house has a hookup with a hose that leads to the one receptacle. You only use each hose in its own room, then close that hose off and move to the next room's hose. You only have one "bag" or "can" to empty into the trash when you are done vacuuming the entire house. If my explanation is not clear, here is the Wiki article on this: I do hope this helps.

@MALUSE You're welcome! The house my first wife and I had built was equipped with one of those central vacuums. It worked very well for the first six years after we moved into the house. That type of vacuum can begin to have problems around the six year mark and ours was no exception... Although it did have some help from a little "spider monkey" named Pretty! (Pretty didn't like to pick up her toys, so decided the best way to clean them off her floor was to vacuum them up.) It took me a week to figure out why the system had suddenly lost suction in half the house. Luckily, all we had to do once we figured out what had happened was reverse the ducts on the vacuum so it blew through the system instead of sucked. Then attach the hose in Pretty's room and drop the hose out her bedroom window. She still had to pick up her toys, but outside instead of in her room! LMFAO! She wasn't happy about that! We use a vacuum cleaner that we move from room to room in this house.

@DaddyEvil Thank you. Your explanation is clear. I've never heard of or seen such a thing in Germany. We have a vacuum cleaner which we move from room to room.

I would have someone else look at and test it out to make sure it is working right and if it is, then you know it is you. Vacuuming is not always an easy job.

I like the simple vacuums. I don't have a lot of carpet so this works good for me. You might have to check into one that is easier to push. Some of them take a lot to push them around.

We don't have a system like this, but it could be that it is getting worn out b/c everything does, doesn't it?

It sounds like it is time to look for a new system. Even if it is harder to push around you still shouldn't have to vacuum twice to get the rugs clean.

I blame it on my vacuum but it seems heavier every time I vacuum. At least it's good exercise.

I thought the same the last time I used my good old faithful Hoover. In the end, I paid about $50 to get a cheap one from KMart. It is much lighter with respect to the old Hoover. Three years on and it still works very well after being abused badly due to our ignorance. (The Hoover is in the shed, still working but has been forced to retire there.)
