Indeed yes; they do matter. There are several factors which play an important role. Here are just a few that can enable you to create a good first impression:
• How you present yourself matters. Are you dressed appropriately and neatly? A well groomed person is generally well liked.
• Do you walk and sit straight with confidence or do you slouch?
Your posture matters.
• How do you speak? Modulate the speed and tone of your voice; not too fast or too slow.
• How do you greet someone? Always look the person in the eye while speaking. And better still, smile as you make eye-contact.
• Maintain a positive stance at all times. Do you appreciate or compliment someone you meet? It could be anything; no hard and fast rules. However, do not fake it; sincerity counts.
Practice can make you perfect. Making a good first impression, can help you in numerous aspects along life’s journey. It can be most beneficial in landing a job of your dreams or even locating your life partner.

Yes, and too many people these days do not believe it. Those who have this skill will go far.

Yes @petatonicsca Its a skill that can be created with practice. Indeed, all of us can try to develop it for our own good. Don't you agree?

Yes indeed.. first impression does matter ..and yes most importantly sincerity... because fake is obvious ....
But we should also not forget the saying " Do not judge the book by it's cover "...

You are so right @epiffanie Impressions can be formed not only on the basis of one's looks, but more importnatly, by hw one behaves and interacts with another. Don't you agree?

Yes and no. To a job, yes. To some males/females, yes. To me.. not really. As you can't fully know someone just by what they wear or dont wear, or how they talk for a 10min convo etc

You may be right to a certain extent @Courtlynn However, it certainly does not hurt anyone by creating a good first impression on anyone. Doing so naturally and habitually, can reap rich dividends. One never knows!

I think if you are going for a job interview first impression are important but in life, they are often wrong. I have met people I didn't care for on first impression and then came to love dearly so there is a bit more to the equation.

You are certainly right @ BelleStarr but to a certain extent. As for me, the first impressions have generally turned out to be right. I can gauge a person by his/her manners and attitude apart from the appearance.
On the other hand, its also true that once you know a person well, you may get to love him/her. It all depends on each individual.
