Sure know this is going to affect a lot of people in California and 12.5% might not sound like a lot right now. Most of the people that have Anthem Blue Cross will have to pick another company and pay even more than the 12.5%. 16 of 19 regions won't carry Anthem Blue Cross. One friend told me earlier today they will pay more and on their fixed income its going to be hard to pay the bill. She is in her 90's so going back to work isn't going to happen.
Aprox. 1.5 million Californians use the state exchange, so its going to be harder for many people in 2018. We are already looking at how to do things spending less money by fixing the item when it costs less than replacing the item. I use coupons at stores and use generic when its cheaper.
What do you do to save money?

Oh yes things are getting tight here too.
I am giving up meat at least for myself..and not spending at all on anything.
Of course coupons only if I already am buying that product but most of the time I am not.
If I could I would give up lots more but it is not just me to consider.

I will be cutting back on meat in 2018. I'm growing more produce and load produce coupons to help me lower the bill, as I know the increased costs of insurance will need to be paid.

@Fishmomma Good luck with it Fishmomma. Did they repeal that part of Obama care where everyone has to pay a fine if they don“t have insurance or not?

I have MVP insurance and have a high deductible. Work pays 70% of our medical bills then we pay the other half. My job also covers our prescriptions as well and we have health savings account. It has its perks about working where i do as I'm sure many companies offer things like this. For those non working people i'm not sure how they survive with insurance as every year the rates sky rocket. I hope they can get a supplement insurance to help them out or get help from their county.

Most of my friends are over 75, so projecting all the costs so far in advance was difficult. I lived many years in a low cost state with no sales tax (Oregon) and now in a state with the highest sales tax in the United States, so big change for me. I moved here for a job and enjoy my job and the really nice weather.

@Fishmomma Yeah every state sure is different. I live in upstate NY and taxes here aren't that pretty either, cost of living is expensive. I'm lucky to have insurance thru my job. I love my job also

The amount I earn here won't pay that increase in insurance. I'll have to solve this by making several changes or taking a second job in 2018.

@Fishmomma I do agree on that. The extra cash in mylot is not enough. Perhaps you can try to have online jobs as part time.

It would be difficult for most to save enough to cover an increase that large.

I think it will mean more Californians without health coverage. I'm concerned that insurance costs are rising so fast. There are many retired people living near me and I'm certain they didn't plan well enough for the added costs.

She is considering moving close to her daughter, who lives in another state. My friend has lived in California a lot of years and told me she doesn't want to leave California. I am saddened to see this happen now, as she loves her home that is completely paid off and that is challenging in this expensive area. They worked hard most of their lives.
Next week we are having a book club gathering and I'm going to suggest taking in a renter to deal with the expense in 2018. We are all seniors most retired or could retire, as I like working part time. One of the other ladies works part time also. I will post a future update.

@Fishmomma I look forward to your update. Sometimes we need to make changes to cope with altered circumstances.

I don't know how people will make ends meet and expect people will be looking for a second or third job to cover their new expenses. One of my friends is working 3 part time jobs right now.
