Bob Marley turns up on a French beach

One of our stops in France while travelling in our motor-home was at the Le Gurp Municipal Camping site in Gironde. Municipal sites are usually small and relatively cheap but there are 1000 sites here and it must be a great little earner for the local authority. It faces the Atlantic Ocean and when we walked down to the beach we were surprised to see old wartime bunkers along the coast. None seemed to be up the right way but there was some fantastic paintings on them. Apparently there are many bunkers and other wartime structures along the coast in the area. Coming from Australia it came as a bit of a shock to see these.

@teamfreak16 Me either but it's well done. I should have cropped the photo to show it better.

I've just posted another and that is 900! Thanks for letting me know. I knew I was getting close but didn't realise I was quite so close - or that I'd reached 900.

It really provides nice decor to the beach.

I prefer them painted to just sitting there are grey concrete blocks.

@judyev You would think that 70 years remembering might be enough and that they could remove the unsightly vestiges of war. We do plenty of other remembering.so the horrors won't be forgotten.

I guess it would be a huge task to remove them - and they do provide good shade for beach-goers. They are quite large concrete creations and would take a bit of shifting I think.

It would be an interesting spot to explore. It seems to me that it is unusual for the structures such as these to still be there..

I thought so too really - and they are all tipped up. None seem to be the right way up. We wondered if the sea had eroded the sand from around them.

There are plenty of bunkers also on the Alps surrounding the Riviera.

There were quite a few here but they all seemed to be tipped up in some way.

At least they painted something on those bunkers to make it look attractive.

He came from a Jamaican ghetto, but earned world wide fame with his music.
