The Abbey de Hambye is located in Normandy, France and is a Benedictine medieval monastery. Much work has been done on the restoration of this old building and there were a number of English/French panels in the grounds enabling visitors to gain some idea of what the place was like in earlier times.
In the church itself, however, there was no explanation for the model ship which was hanging from the vaulted ceiling. It is always things like this that intrigue me and I feel like writing to the authorities for an explanation. Do you wonder about stuff that seems out of place?

@JudyEv very intriguing - surprised the church has no leaflets explaining its ship

@JudyEv possibly made by a parishioner or someone from the town sailed on such a ship in its history

Talk about a conversation piece! I can't figure out if there is supposed to be some symbolism there or an eccentric rich donor wanted it there.

That could be. No-one has thought to look up for a while and it keeps getting missed.

Maybe it served as a reminder to worshippers gathered at the monastery to pray for all the sailors at sea, for safe travels and safe return to the ports.
