The power of the jaw

I didn't know my jaw had so much power. Lately I was suffering from discomfort, headaches and cramps all on the left side of my jaw, face and head. I saw my dentist who said he couldn't find anything wrong. After some Xrays, a visit to emergency and medical tests, nothing.
Finally I was referred to a physiotherapist and found out that the strongest muscle in our body, pound for pound is the jaw. Specifically the masseter muscle, which is the main chewing muscle.
This jaw muscle works overtime and can be the source of earaches, toothaches, tension headaches, dizziness, pain which are all of the symptoms I was experiencing. I also found out that there was such a thing as normal jaw opening and mine was way below the norm.
After just two treatments so far and doing the exercises she gave me, at home,I felt relief for the first time after months of discomfort. Who knew?

I believe it because I have been chewing some gum rather vigorously and it can cause all sorts of effects with the jaw motion mainly ear aches for me.

I suffer from this also and it affect me on occasion. I was also told by my dentist when your stressed you can clench and grind your teeth while sleeping which will cause tension in your jaw.

Yes seems they can cause the same problems as your back and other larger muscles

Got some troubles in the past with my chewings from this jaw business. Mine was not serious though, just very uncomfortable. Then suddenly, the discomfort feeling just went away. (Guess God rewarded me for being good. I had thought I was a donkey chewing hay at that time.)

I had tooth aches before and the pain was gone after a while. Haven't had it removed though I lost my previous dentist.
