No more Salers cattle - it's now all Limousins

We went for a walk yesterday from our camp-site near Felletin and came across some attractive Limousin cattle. For the past few days we’ve seen nothing but the dark red Salers breed of cattle but now the lighter Limousins are very prevalent together with the almost white Charolais. The Limousins are popular in Australia too but here they seem to be mostly horned whereas few cattle in Australia are now horned. The Limousin is large-framed and very muscular. This bull was on one side of the road with his own harem but there was a mob of females on the other side and I’m sure he would have liked to have made their acquaintance. He looks a bit wistful, doesn't he?

@judyev Wistful you say? I'd say he's rearing to go and I wouldn't like to be the lady who'd say no to him.

@JudyEv Ah, wonderful contraceptives are those old electrified fences. They don't half dampen one's ardour.

@xFiacre Exactly. I've seen 'aprons' tied around rams' bellies too. So many ideas to stop nature taking its course.

He didn't seem inclined to tackle the electric fence so I think 'wistful' wasn't too far off the mark.

Yes, he does ..... are the cows on the other side of the road teasing him?

Most of the others were resting but when he bellowed, one jumped up very quickly.

He mostly definitely was! He let out this high-pitched bellow and came striding over to the fence.

He is a most handsome critter. Interesting. Does he charge for a ride?

I think you'd ride him at your peril.

He does at that, like a country singer on the sixth week of a tour.

Our cattle don`t have that hump on the back of the neck, that looks painful!

I think it is mostly muscle. This bull is polled but all the cows we saw were horned.

He had his own harem but obviously wasn't satisfied with them.

Weird how some grow horns and some don't.

Some of them have the sharp tips cut off but this bull is naturally polled.
