No Bill Due To Overpayment?

I finally called the water company because we still haven't received our water bill.
When the representative checked our account, she gave me the amount due, but said there's also overpayment.
I explained that I decided to pay everything in the last bill because I wasn't sure anymore if I paid the overdue amount or not. I usually pay past the due date, but before the next cutoff date, so there’s an overlap.
I thought that by paying everything this time, my next bill would be updated and only show the current meter reading and amount due.
However, if there is an overpayment and I don't have to pay anything this cutoff, I still want to have a copy of the bill.
She said we should have still received one, so I requested for a hard copy to be delivered after a few days.
I wonder how many months I've paid in advance?
Have you ever overpaid a bill?
Would you rather get your money back, or carry it over to the next bill?

@hereandthere That was why smoke coming out of my head, nostrils, ears etc when I received the statement, that they had no choice but to charge me $10 extra for messing up their schedule and paperwork. (I just got back from wonderful Singapore at the time... with lots of dirty laundries in suitcases from weeks of relaxing there!)

It is nice that you pay in advance
In my case, I always want a supporting document for my filing purposes and easy review of my bill expenses so I do not pay in advance I always see the bill first..If it comes late then I will call them to send me or else I will not pay even if they put penalty..It is not my fault of delayed billing

@m_audrey6788 they're printed on thermal paper (like fax paper) so they eventually fade.

i'm hoping my overpayment covers 2 months because you're right, there might be other unexpected expenses, or worse, you get short of cash.

our water bill is not stable. it fluctuates according to how many cu.mm we consume. we pay when the bill comes.

this is the first time it happened so i decided to call to be sure.
when you overpay your phone bill, i guess the excess is carried over to the next.

It feels better if you had paid in advance than pay late. You can just carry it over to the next bill

Well It's great you don't have to pay it now but yes I still would want a copy of the bill just to be sure. They can always tell you that you overpaid but until I knew for sure i wouldn't let it slide. Then next thing you know they are shutting it off or charging you a late fee. For your sake though I hope they are right and you do not owe anything, what a blessing that would be.
