I took some time away to work on a geneological project. I decided to research my family, both sides. Wow, what a job. I used ancestry but did not sign up, and a few other free sites. I was thrilled to find so much free information available. My father's side goes way back but my mother's sadly stops at her mom and dad. They came from Lithuania and I am still researching the many name changes. I joined a Lithuanian group on Facebook that has been very helpful. I also created a wordpress page, still in progress, containing everything I have, so far, on my mother's family. Happy to be back!

I too tried tracing our ancestry ...but unlike you all, our ancestry is kind of hidden. That is because we were supposed to escape the army of a cruel king that time who'd won our kingdom of the time. Back then, all women and children were sent in different directions to find a home...and blend with locals. We survived. Don't know if others from our kingdom of those days did.

My mother's people are from Lithuania but it was part of communist Russia. That is one reason they changed the spelling of their surnames when they traveled. Some of them were in Poland and lost to the camps.

Welcome back! Sounds like you've been busy with tracing your family tree and hope you can find more results for your moms side of the family. Must be very interesting as you trace it back

I think many times, it is so easy to get wrapped up on something to where you have to give up everything else. But if you were able to find some of the information you were looking for then that is Good. It is always interesting to learn New things about your heritage.

I love genealogy but it can be frustrating when you hit a brick wall. So rewarding when you finally break through though!

Yes, and I have experienced both. I had to put it away for a bit.

Genealogy is very interesting. Fortunately I have a cousin who is a professional genealogist. He traced us back to the Earl of Something or other (I forget) in 1612.
