Ice cream on the first day of school?

Today is our first day for high schoolers. Teachers started last Monday and elementary and middle school starts tomorrow. Today, after high school got out, I saw that all of them were eating ice creams on a stick! I don't remember this ever happening on the first day. I guess they wanted to make high schoolers feel welcome. Also, it is very hot today, over 35C, so it is a good thing for them! Have you ever heard of such a thing? Did your school ever pass out snacks or anything like that? When I was a student, I don't remember that ever happening. But I'm happy for my students.

When I was a student, we didn't have any gifts like that at all. But now it is different. In some special occasions, the school will give snacks to the students. It can be ice cream or a juice drink.
