You are rushed to the ER after being involved in a terrible accident. Doctors are trying to save your life and a blood transfusion is needed. Would you in your semi-conscious state worry about whose blood is being transfused into your body? . What race? what color ?- if the donor is a thief, a rapist or a murderer? Unless you store your own, you won't know whose blood you're getting. My point is - we are all human beings - whatever our race, religion or color. Love and peace is what we need in the world - there is too much hate going around.

Nope, I wouldn't care if I got goat's blood! Lol. If it could save my life I would be grateful for the blood.

That would not bother me at all. I would only be concerned about HIV because there have been people who contracted it from transfusions despite it being tested and cleared.

I suppose that would be the biggest fear. However I read on the net that the risk of catching a virus from a blood transfusion is very low - even though it has happened. The report says that only "one in two million donations might carry HIV and transmit it if given to a patient"

@Kandae11 That's good to know! I don't generally trust statistics, especially in the US, so I would double that number and it would still look like an acceptable risk to me.

@dragon54u They say the risk is higher with Hepatitis B. though. I suppose that is one reason why some religions do not care for blood transfusions.

No, at that stage I think one would not be worried about the source of the blood, unless it was against the person's religion to receive a blood transfusion. I agree about all the hate out there, it is reaching scary heights, we definitely need more peace and love in the world.

I don't know if the fact will ever be accepted that we are all human beings with the same color blood.

Yes there is. People just don't realize that the same kind of blood in their veins is the same in everyone else's. It isn't until you need that life-giving blood that you find it really doesn't matter what that person looks like or who he or she was. You're just grateful to have it.

if it is an emergency situation, the victim should no longer think about where the blood came from as long as it is safe, clean, and pure.

@Kandae11 that is true. in emergency situations, we must set aside our own beliefs and religious affiliations.

Most victims don't really think about where it is coming from, I was simply making the point that some things are beyond our control and that we should think more of love than hating our fellow man. We need each other to survive.

The only thing I would worry about is aids. I know blood is supposed to be screened, but accidents happen.

Hmmm... When I fainted in my yard from loss of blood, Pretty got me into the car and took em to the ER. Neither one of us cared whose blood was put into my veins, what color his/her skin was, what level of education s/he reached or the amount of money s/he may have had when giving the blood. We were just grateful someone had taken the time and gave of themselves so I could live. I will admit I was scared about three months later when I answered my door and my nephew told me we were going to the hospital to have a blood test done. He happened to be the officer the hospital reached when they called to make sure I showed up to let them vampire me. We still don't know exactly what all the fuss was about. If they told my nephew, he never relayed the information to me. *shrug!* I was happy enough that they just pulled three vials of blood and let me go home again....

If people thought of these things more, there might be less prejudice in the world.

I won't think of what kind of person will donate their blood on me. I remember, one of my mother's donor before was an inmate and we didn't mind, we thank that person for being kind.

It would not matter a bit to me. Most (I hope) blood is checked for diseases and to my knowledge, personality traits are transferred!

None of those demographics would affect me if I were in need of a transfusion. In fact, I was at the hospital just a few days ago and they were sitting on the fence about giving me one, but my numbers were just high enough not to need it. My biggest fear would have been the screening process-they screen for so much now, but what about what they do not know about? We have a friend who is HIV positive as a result of bad blood that was given during the mid 1980's following a firey car crash which caused him to have to have skin grafts on 70% of his body.

That is an awful thing to happen to anyone - and it does happen. However I am sure the screening process is much more efficient now than it would have been in the 1980's especially for a virus like HIV.
