Sounds easy? Right.
That's what I thought too.
I've been bringing children to public restrooms for as long as I can remember....first my sister, then my children and now my grandchildren. It's just not a big deal.
Now I've learned otherwise.
My middle child, no children took her five year old niece out for the day. Inevitablely a trip to a public restroom was needed.
This toilet had an electric eye to make it flush....
Now Sandra knew what was required......she informed Auntie Jane that she needed toilet paper......Auntie Jane, not realizing that the toilet paper was to cover the electric eye, covered the entire toilet seat with tissue. I'm sure that presents a challenge. When this was done, Sandra informed her it wasn't right but she grudgingly used the toilet.
Then it was Auntie Janes turn to pee. Auntie Jane is not accustomed to children.....Auntie Jane likes to hover over public toilets.....
Sandra was fascinated.....she had to see how this was accomplished.....she kept twisting and craning......Auntie Jane....you aren't touching the toilet.....Auntie Jane.....how can you pee, when you don't sit on the toilet.....
Of course five year olds are not discriminating. This is all asked in a voice that carries...
Poor Auntie Jane....she told us this story....some of us laughed so hard the tears rolled down our cheeks.
I'm sure it will be a long time before she recovers from spending the day with her niece.

This reminds me of the time many years ago when my daughter was about five, and took her to her first college football game. We were tailgating beforehand, and the closest bathrooms were Port-o-lets, or Jiffy-Johns or whatever you call those things. It was quite comical explaining to her that when she used she had to squat and not touch the seat or anything else in there. She didn't quite understand at first, but the look on her face when she came out when she was done was priceless! She was like, "Daddy, that thing is disgusting. Why doesn't anyone clean it?" haha

@Morleyhunt I've heard of Johnny on the Spot, but not Jimmy on the Job. Both quite comical names, though!

LOVE THIS! Its so funny and I can imagine that all the others in the restroom, if it was a big one, enjoyed the convo too.
Back about 8 years ago I used to go places with this aunt, NEVER, not once did I ever get by without her saying in her old loud voice " Don`t sit on the toilet Angie they are filthy!" It would not have been so bad but I was 44 years old!

Not everyone appreciates a five year old. Seniors are sometimes very similar to five year olds.

Size was the least of their concerns. Miss Sandra is a tall five year old. She is taller than many six year olds.

it is really amusing to know how kids want to pee in public toilets. and also using much of toilet paper at the seat of the toilet bowl because of the notion that the germs of the previous user might enter the urinary tract.

But all little Sandra wNted was to have the electric eye covers so the toilet wouldn't flush with her sitting on it.

Well, there's first time for everything that's for sure. That's probably embarrassing if some one else was on the toilet.

I think my daughter was embarrassed just to have the five year old watching....

I laughed so hard when Sandra's mom told me the story. Then I shared it with Platespinner and knew I had to write about it on mylot.

I wonder is Sandra wants to cover the electric eye because she thinks someone is watching her pee? I think you wanted to type 'recovers', not 'covers' in the last line? At least Sandra didn't verbalize any body parts she may have seen from that perspective. Funny.

The electric eye gets covered so the toilet digest flush while the princess is peeing. This tends to cause small children a great deal of stress. What a simple solution....too bad Auntie Jane didn't know about it.

That is too funny. I am sitting here laughing so hard right now. It is amazing what kids yell out in public.

Sandra is a charming, energetic engaging child. I can just picture her trying to see how Auntie Jane is suspending herself, while Auntie Jane is trying not to show her assets.
