I am touched that so many are worried about me here in Texas but....

I am 696 miles northwest of Corpus Christi where Harvey is wreaking havoc. Most hurricanes don't travel that far inland but I imagine Houston is getting their fair share of that horrific storm. I am praying that all those in that region are not harmed and that extends to the pups that always seem to be on their chains in their back yards and those cats who might end up being swept away or else stuck inside a flooded home. Did you know how big Texas is?

Yes I did know and you also told me the other day that you were safe. Houston is suffering big time.

Glad you are safe, and yes, I know how large TX is. Drive through it once and flew into Dallas and Houston. I hope those pets and people are all safe.

Thank you. I'll bet Dallas was a trip and a half. A friend of mine travels between here and Michigan all the time and hates when she's stuck in Dallas. Apparently that airport leaves a lot to be desired

I don't fly so I've never been in that airport @DianneN but I can still remember how big it was back in 1968 when we traveled through part of it to get to grandpas.

You knew that well right? After all you have been here before so you know how far it is from an ocean

In fact @LadyDuck you have seen more of Texas than I have, I never had the desire to travel to north east or south east Texas back when I was still earning enough money to do so.

@rebelann Yes, I knew that El Paso is not close to the ocean and the path of the hurricane was nowhere near your location.

Thank you so much. I think there are a few organizations that do what they can to rescue pets. If something like that happened here I could not evacuate with out the pup and kitties.

@amadeo exactly. I can understand people making sure their kids are safe first but why abandon the loyal pups and kitties?

I know that Texas is so huge that Interstate 10 covers around 850 miles from the Louisiana border to New Mexico.

@rebelann I know what you mean since the travel distance from the Texas border on Interstate 10 to the Mississippi border is around 270 miles.

Texas is the largest state besides Alaska. Those poor people in the eye of the storm are suffering and more rain coming in. Their lives will never be the same.

@rebelann I'm afraid it will unless the rain stops soon. They were saying at least two more days of rain.

@rebelann Out there somewhere are family from my Mother´s side they are the first that I think of and their possible children as they settled there to live. Its raining here now like crazy but nothing like it is over there in Houston. Will they ever be able to live in those houses again?

Texas is very big. It is over 800 miles from the north to the south borders and the east to the west borders, I have never traveled the whole of TX. Harvey only affected the coastal areas in the southeast of TX.

Do hurricanes travel that far inland? Somehow I wouldn't be surprised if you got some of that storm but I really don't know very much about hurricanes, I've never experienced one. You also get tornadoes, don't you? I'm almost 700 miles northwest of Corpus so the only thing we might get of that hurricane is more rain than usual but seldom do we flood. The only year that was really bad where we got tons of rain that caused a lot of flooding was in 2006.

They said in the weather report that this hurricane was the worst to hit the TX coast in a very long time @nanette64 Katrina hit New Orleans which is over 400 miles southeast of Fairfield.

@rebelann As a rule they don't come up this far and yes we get tornadoes too. Even during Katrina I didn't get anything like this.

Hurricanes always are heartbreaking when they hit land, just look what Katrina did to St Louis. I hope the rain will stop or move away from the shore, at least then the rain will fall over the ocean instead. I'm always thankful that I live here in an area that doesn't feel that kind of Mother Natures wrath.
