Harvey 3 (or no Harvey)

Got up this morning and it wasn't raining. Yeah, I know Houston is getting hammered, but Austin was dry. As the day progressed, it got clearer and dryer, while staying nice and cool. Like... who's ever heard of a sunny day in August in Texas when the temperature doesn't get out of the 80's? This was good for us, it gives the ground a chance to suck up the water, but if it rains again in the next few days, we'll have more flooding since the ground is saturated. Still, 3 days without turning on the air conditioning. Having the front and back door open to allow the house to air out. This has been a lovely break in the weather. Yes, I feel bad for the people down in Houston and other places on the coast, but it was a nice break for us in Austin. With Harvey moving north east, we are now on the dry side, so I expect that we won't be seeing any more severe weather. Having said that, you are aware that we are just now entering the worst part of hurricane season...

Well, it's nice to hear that there is someplace out that way that is safe, rather sorta safe anyway. And no, I was not aware it was hurricane season but I know now. I hope the worst is over and that neither you nor Houston get any more rain for the rest of this month and minimal in Sept.

It actually got warm today, 6 p.m. and I've finally resorted to turning on the ac. Hurricane season is from June 1st to November 30th. If you remember, Sandy hit around Halloween. WOULD YOU BELIEVE... someone said something in one of the game rooms on FB about El Paso being evacuated? I laughed, then told them that, no... it wasn't El Paso...

Oh good grief @ElicBxn people just don't get how big and diverse TX is, you get the lush green forests and we get the dry sandy desert. If only they'd look at a map, right?

@rebelann oh yeah, and don't get me started on a book I read once that had the Astrodome in a "sage covered plain" and I-45 going through a desert!

Houston is a very large, very flat, very close to the Gulf place and it will probably be quite a while before it is fully recovered. I remember going down after Ike and, despite it being 6 months since Ike, there were still a lot of places that had tarps over their roofs and stuff. It was the same after Alicia back in the '90's. Its going to be a long road to full recovery.

@ElicBxn All the time when there is a major hurricane it takes months, if not years, before a full recovery.

I am glad you have fared well during the storm. Unfortunately the areas the storm hit are in very bad shape, I hope they get better relief than the KIatrina area did.

One hopes they've learned a few things since then.

take care everyone. hurricanes are just so severe or extreme nowadays. do you believe that is because of the climate change?

As it warms, the water warms and that creates the stronger storms - how much people have added to the warmth is questionable, after all, its warmer on Mars and I don't see how we've done that...
