Bahay Kubo means nipa hut. It is a type of stilt house. When I was a small child, my family's house was made of nipa. It was so cool to live in a stilt house. The song talks about a small nipa hut that variety of plants grow. Turnip eggplant winged bean peanut String bean hyacinth bean Lima bean. Yes of course, most if not every child born in the Philippines learn to sing this song. And you see, even children not a filipino know and can sing the song. Oh how I wish I can go back to the province and live modestly
