Foiled again - Route Barrees make our life difficult

We have a GPS called Doris in our motor-home and she has given us a few headaches from time to time. Sometimes the fault isn’t all hers. I don’t have how many ‘Route Barrée’ signs we’ve come across in our travels but it would go into double figures.
Every time we are thwarted from going in the direction we wish to go, Doris doesn’t understand and insists on bringing us back to the same spot, expecting us to try again. In the photo, you can see that our route is barred by a collection of women’s slacks. Further on is a market and hence the road is closed for the moment.
When you don’t know the town it can be difficult to negotiate your way around such obstacles. The roads rarely go the way you think they might. Those that do go the way you want are often so narrow you wish you hadn’t found them.

GPS sure can't take "everything" into account - not just yet. Even without obstacles, I don't understand why GPS routes us the way they do sometimes. I know they're trying to route us the fastest way, but fastest isn't necessarily the best way

@JudyEv That happened when we tried to go to a beach we hadn't been to. It took us on this crazy twisty turning ride through small roads and we ended up linking up to a main road which we could have taken directly from the freeway off ramp. Plus at that link, we had to make a left hand turn at a stop sign and with the horrendous traffic it was nearly impossible to do.

We always get there in the end but sometimes with a few more grey hairs on our heads.

That's why you can't totally rely on GPS. Can't beat a trusty road map.
