Fifty Seven Channels and Nothing On

This was inspired by a comment that @TRBRocks420 made on @Susan2015 's post about a Rockford Files marathon. He said that he wished they would start showing Simon & Simon reruns. Boy, does he have a point. Think about all of the TV channels we have out there, from local stations to the "superstations" to the national networks like TV Land and the Hallmark Channel. And they all show the same dang shows. Why would I watch The Big Bang Theory on TBS when it also airs locally and on two other stations? Meanwhile, do you know how long it's been since I've seen a Night Court rerun? Or Cheers? A few years ago there was talk of a "decades"-themed series of channels: one to show sitcoms and dramas from the 50s, one for the 60s, one for the 70s, and one for the 80s. That apparently fell by the wayside, which is really too bad. As we lose more and more of our classic TV stars (from my generation we've lost such icons as Adam West and Mary Tyler Moore this year) it would be nice to be able to go to a TV station and reminisce about those programs that we loved. Of course, with all the streaming services now, it may be a moot point: as more and more people cut the cable/satellite cord they don't have to worry about 23 different stations showing the same episode of Everybody Loves Raymond.
