Wasp stings

I was reading up on wasp stings, because I was stung by one (a yellow jacket) on Thursday morning and it's still itchy today (Sat.). Wasp stingers carry venom, that's why they hurt so much more than a bee sting. Usually, the pain and swelling recedes within several hours of being stung. But I'm having what is called a "large local reaction." One symptom of it is nausea, and I was slightly nauseated Thursday. Now I know why. One bit of advice in the article I read was "try not to get stung." Well, duh! Who would have ever thought of that?

Yup! But if you read what I said to DB, there was some, more helpful advice, too.

@BarBaraPrz I read your reply to DB and it is very informative. The advice that I was referring to in my previous comment was this --- "try not to get stung". Hope that clarifies the matter.

I've been trying my entire life to avoid wasp stings. So far I've been successful. I'm terrified of them. I was once waiting for a doctor appointment about 50 years ago and no one was being called in. The waiting room, which usually is promptly attended to, was backing up. Finally, after about an hour, the receptionist came out and told us that the delay was caused by a man who had been stung multiple times by wasps and needed emergency treatment. Since then I'd done everything I know how to do to stay out of the way of wasps. I feel for you.

@BarBaraPrz Exactly. Once the receptionist told the waiting patients what was happening we were glad to wait and I'm sure more besides me were praying for that fellow.

When one has no answers state the obvious, ha Did the article taught about any treatments for this type of sting?

Yes, it gave many suggestions, including washing the area with soap and water to remove as much of the venom as possible. Um... wouldn't the venom be inside the skin, not on it? It also suggested a cold pack to bring down the swelling and taking an otc antihistamine such as Benedryl.

@BarBaraPrz Yes, Benadryl seems to be recommended a lot for swelling. How do you feel now?

@dgobucks226 Still itches a bit and the area is red and warmer to the touch than the rest of my leg.

Things happen when we least expect. Shouldn't you be using an antibiotic ointment?

The article didn't say anything about that, but suggested getting a tetanus booster shot as soon as possible.

Wasp stings are painful I know, I hope you get some relief soon. I have been stung by plenty of wasps.
