Question of the Day- Identity Theft

With the recent Equifax fiasco I was wondering if anybody has been a victim of identity theft? If yes, did it involve credit cards, social security/date of birth information, or your bank account? Or perhaps you were a victim of a scam? For me, I had personal information stolen when my former health insurance company, Aetna, had there computer records hacked. I had to sign up with a protection service and fortunately nothing bad has come from the breech. Although, I had to change my e-mail passwords after receiving many suspicious e-mails, something which always worries me. So how about you? Any similar stories to tell? Thanks for responding! It's ok! Although worrisome, nothing horrible has come of it (keeping my fingers crossed)

I haven't had trouble from this particular breach but I accepted their offer of membership in Trusted ID and froze my credit reports for 90 days. I have had someone get my card number before and wire money to Spain with it but I called right away and they reversed the charges and issued me a new card. Funny thing was, I had NEVER used that card for anything! I wonder how they get the numbers if you never use the card?

That's too bad. My Dad had his credit card information stolen on one of his cards. Fortunately, when the activity becomes suspicious they put a stop on it. Did your girlfriend get credit card info stolen?

You get these scammers who try to get personal information like bank accts. or social security. I get occasional e-mails saying money has been wired to my account and please respond. I immediately report it as spam.

Not too long ago, my credit card company cancelled my card as someone in the States tried to use my information to use my card but they acted quickly and I had no problem other than having to get a new card and account. Somehow my credit card was compromised and who knows how?

It is a mystery to me too! I almost hesitate to use my credit card and sometimes use the self-service as to avoid giving my card to a store employee. I never use debit card. Just worry about my bank acct. being compromised.

@dgobucks226 , yes, they should have. Keeping the personal information of a client secure should be a priority.

You would think these big corporations like Aetna could have better prevention methods. It is just something else one has to worry about, but yes so far so good.

In my case I was alerted by e-mail from a trusted site (which I checked before responding). With credit card companies they will call you if there is any suspicious activity.

I won't use the debit feature on my credit card for fear of being compromised. And I know others whose credit info was stolen, very scary

Had my credit card information stolen twice and my personal information stolen from my internet provider. It makes me feel really scared now. I try to really protect my information now but it is not always possible in this day and age.
