What I Love About Fall in Southern California

Now that the start of fall is officially only a few days away, I realize that it is one of my favorite times of year, even in Southern California where the weather does not change dramatically from summer to fall.
Why do I love fall in Southern California?
The weather is still beautiful and warm.
Since school has restarted, there are far fewer tourists in the beach towns, especially during the week.
The sidewalk cafes are open and delightful for lunch or an early dinner.
Rain is rare this time of year.
Flowers are in bloom everywhere!
Those are the reasons I love fall in Southern California.
What about you? What do you like about fall where you live?

@jstory07 - Yes, that describes it perfectly ... not too cold and not too hot!

FALL?? I don't think we get one, it's a yearly process where it gets warmer until it's really hot and stays hot for weeks or even several months then slowly starts becomes less hot until finally in either late December or early January we start to get cold, by that I mean it might go as low as 42 during the day in a really bad year when we actually get winter for a few weeks rather than days.2 people like this

It's a whole lot different up there than down here.
I'd love to be able to go there again one day but only to take pictures @DeborahDiane I can't afford what they charge for a room.
I live about 172 miles south of Ruidoso, I used to love to make trips up there when I had the time. The last time I was up there was in 2006.

@rebelann - The last time we were at The Inn of the Mountain Gods, our youngest two daughters were ages 7 and 3. Now they are 35 and 39. LOL Things may have changed a bit since then!

@rebelann - You are definitely right about that area of Texas ... although I remember going to Inn of the Mountain Gods near Riudoso and it was chilly there in the fall.

@DeborahDiane Must have been later in September, the beginning of the month is not that colorful.

@marlina - It could have been late September. It was a number of years ago, so I don't remember the exact date. However, I remember how beautiful it was.

@marlina - Years ago, my husband and I were in Quebec in September. We had some friends who lived in Maine and we all drove up to Quebec to spend a weekend. I still remember how beautiful the trees were with all their golden colors!

I love falls because kids are back to school, no noises coming from the near gardens. Tourists are back home, we can finally enjoy a day by the lake without having the problem to find a parking. The temperature is still fine, but no more hot, this is what I appreciate more.

@DeborahDiane It's so crowded here in Summer, we are glad when the tourists go home.

@LadyDuck - I feel the same way. In the summer, you can't find a place to park; the restaurants are full; and the beach is packed. In the fall and winter, we live in Paradise!

@LadyDuck - It sounds like you enjoy fall for the same reasons we do ... kids are back in school and the tourists are gone, making it easier to find parking spots!

I would say that I love Fall due to the change in weather, but I live in Florida and our weather doesn't change. It's still hot and muggy, even in the Fall. But instead of it being 98 degrees out, the weather cools to 95 degrees out! lol

@DeborahDiane Once that temperature hits 90 degrees, I can no longer tell the difference in any number from 90 and up. It could be 90 or 101, and it all feels the same to me. HOT. TOO HOT. I'M IN HELL HOT. LOL

@moffittjc - Ha Ha! I know what you mean. When we were raising our daughters in Texas, one of my daughters said one time, "I can really tell the difference when the temperature is under 100 degrees instead of over it." LOL

@moffittjc - I'm the same as you. After 90 degrees, it feels hot to me. It is supposed to be in the low 90s here this coming week. That is hot for Orange County where many people who live near the ocean do not have air conditioning ... even in multi-million dollar homes!

@just4him - You are right that Missouri does not get as cold as Wisconsin. However, when I grew up, the ponds would freeze and we would ice skate on them. We often got a foot of snow. I think things have warmed up some since then. My sister says the winters are not as bad now as when we were children.

@just4him - It impresses me every time I hear you say that your favorite season in Wisconsin is winter. You are made of tougher stuff than I am! I am positively a wimp when it comes to winter ... and I grew up in Missouri!

@DeborahDiane Do they have winter in Missouri? I just checked its exact location and it's three states south of Wisconsin. I would imagine winter is not as cold as it is in Wisconsin.

For once, it has finally felt like autumn here in L.A. . . . it has cooled down considerably and we had a few gray days/mornings. But well, today it's back to early sun . . . still warm but at least not triple temps like we had a few months back. I had to laugh because we did get some good beach time before school started . . . I don't doubt the beach towns are less crowded during the day now (ah, back to sanity for those that live in those areas!). We've had some autumns where it'd be like summer through almost December . . . so I am liking what we're having now . . . a sort of real autumn (and I hope it stays!).

California weather is the best this time of year. When Summer and Fall are confused and does not know which one it is. Makes for some amazing weather and the air is like no where else.

In my area, there are some fabulous tree foliage when it gets going. The cooler weather also marks fall here which I welcome so much. I am pleased you like the climate there in California Deborah. It must be really nice to have warmth at this time of year.
I think what I love most of all is the smell of the leaves crunching as I walk.

@Tampa_girl7 - We don't get many colorful trees here in Southern California, but I enjoy the colors when we travel to the northeast in the fall to see our adult daughters and their families.

There isn;t any four season in Malaysia. Either rain or sun. I prefer rain because it is cold, great time to sleep comfortably
