It started to spit, ever so politely, just as I packed up working on the yard for the day. After I came inside, its water broke -- whoosh! -- and then nothing for a bit. Then a gentle rain came down.
The rain was gentle, but there was a blast of lightning right in front of me as I stood in the doorway looking out. Very loud! And that was that.

I'm fond of rain but not of storm and lightning. We had very heavy rain here last week.

A gentle rain is (usually) always welcome. Storms, not so much.
