Good morning, friends. Another working day to shoo away robbers.

After I was robbed, I have to work either with my hands or with my head. I need to discover how to make my house secure as I don´t sleep well all alone in a bid house full of noises.
I did not listen to the house noises before this. But now, wood creaks, the wind whistles and beats the plastic of the hothouse and there´s the new sound of lights going on and off.
This last sound belong to several lamps that my brother installed with timers. The lamps are horrible (he bought inexpensive ones) and then placed all around the house, including my room.
At first I let him do what he decided. I was thankful that he was taking care of it all. Now I discovered that it is time to change some things and maybe eliminate several devises.
He had installed sensors that light up after sun down if antone breaks the ray. But then, the cops with his acceptance told me that I had to cut down all my plants near the fence. So now, every time there comes a car nearby, the giant light gives out a sort of prison light. If that happens, it will not help. People get used to all that and it is not dissuasive. So that will have to be changed, after paying for it.
This post, after reading it, shows all the signs of a rant. And it is.
I went to sleep at 3 AM last night. And my body wakes up at the same time
My head aches.
Any ideas that might help?

I would not be able to live with lights that come on at all hours of the night. That would disrupt my sleep.
I think by your getting a dog that would scare away someone away is a good idea.
Sad that you keep getting targeted. I hope your efforts will stop the break-ins.

What about cameras in the areas where someone could get in? You could just bring up the app on your PC and check if you hear something.

There are many devises to turn a house into a fortress. But I don´t like to live like that.

The only protection I feel at home is having my dog. They see how big she is and they won't mess with the house, she will protect us.

I think a dog will help me too. I prefer dogs than prison lights.

@LovingMyBabies It is not fair that the bad guys are free while I´m imprisoned in my own house.

@amadeo If I only could learn to use it. And if it were nearby when the thieves came.

@marguicha A good baseball bat would be handy.

Bars on windows? Maximum security grates over doors. Fake cameras to give the impression things are being recorded.

I have seen that bars can be taken away easily and cost a lot. I don+t own too many things.

How about leaving a radio playing (quietly) all the time?

When I´m at home, I have my TV on. When my TV is installed back, I´ll think about having it on when I go out.

A good alarm system and security dog might help you out. Hope you get these issues resolved soon.

I too live alone which is why I have dogs and cats, right now I only have one dog Ally but so far even one dog is enough to dissuade intruders. Over the years I found out the best dogs are the ones you raise, it is easier to bond with puppies than adult dogs. Have you ever owned a dog?

I'm sorry you lost her, I know what that feels like @marguicha maybe a dog or even 2 would bring happiness back into your home and also keep thieves out.

It seems that now it is the time to accept that some measures will have to be taken away. When the alarm system is installed, I´ll stop the many lamps that my brother installed. I don´t like living in a jailhouse.

I agree that getting a dog is a good idea. And maybe installing an alarm system.
Also, invest in good locks on your doors. That is what we did when we got robbed. The deadbolt we have now is difficult to break or pick. One time it got stuck (I think my neighbors tried to break in again and messed it up) and the maintenance man had to come out to help me get in my apartment. He had to use a drill to get it off because nothing would work to get it to open. He said that those are the most difficult locks to deal with, so I feel safe having one. The brand is Schlage, but I don't know if they sell those in your country. Maybe research the top rated locks that are available.

@marguicha True. I live in a second story apartment so I don't worry too much about people entering through windows. They would have to climb up here with a ladder, and that would draw a lot of attention.

I don't know what kind of neighborhood you live in but just by saying you are alone in a house is like my situation. However living here in the suburbs of Riga mostly all day and all night for me it is like being totally alone in the world it is that quiet. I have no worries because my neighbors are all around, all of them have dogs that will even bark if anyone comes around my house. Out little streets here are like country roads and I have no worries living here for the time being on my own. For you it is probably very different and I know what it can be like listening to every little noise. Having said that first question have you considered getting a dog? Second perhaps this link can offer you some ideas.

My neighborhood is a nice one and I have not had any problems in over 20 years. I will have an alarm system (that will be installed this week) and I´ll get a dog, maybe next week. The rest of the awful measures that my brother installed will be taken away one by one.
