My state is on fire

I still have 2 posts to make about the top ten children's TV shows, but in the meantime we've been choking on smoke down here in the South Bay. The fires in Santa Rosa and Napa County are so bad, we're getting smoke and Ash over 100 miles away.
I keep opening the back door so the dogs and toddler can play outside, but the air is so thick right now that it really isn't feasible. I'm pulling the air purifier out because this is setting off everyone's asthma.
@TheHorse, how is the air up your way? You're closer to the fires than I am.

As far as I can recall this is the worst fire ever, don't you think? The one in the Oakland hills was bad too.

@TheHorse @CookieMonster46 I was just reading this related article a moment ago. The Oakland hills fire killed 25 people and destroyed 3,500 homes.
A woodsy fragrance has lingered in Oakland for days, and the windows and doors that usually invite cool, seasonal air to waft through homes and apartments have been kept shut. The pungent air spooked Sue Piper and Carolyn Burgess before dawn on Monday. The

I've heard the same. I think this one is worse than the Oakland Hills one, although that one was pretty awful too.

Stay safe, this fire is scary. But I heard a lot of buildings and people have been saved which is good. Hopefully it gets contained soon.

I know 100 missing people were located, but there's still over 500 still missing in areas that are just too hot for the firefighters to approach. At my doctor's office, someone there mentioned that his family's former home is now gone, his children's old elementary school is gone, and pretty much their whole former neighborhood is gone.

I just watched this on the news. I am feeling sick seeing so much burned to the ground. They showed one full street before the fire full of many nice homes and now there is nothing there. They described it as "out of control" at this point.

I haven't heard what started the fires yet, but everything is still so dry right now. Any little spark can cause something like this.

@spiderdust It is. On the radio news today, I heard that the fires in Northern California are 2 percent under control. Many schools where I live are closed down.

Yeah, the amount of damage is horrifying. I mean, California catches on fire to some degree every summer, but this is especially bad.

@TheHorse My daughter's school has done indoor recess all week and canceled a field trip because of the air quality. My friend's child who is the same age and lives in Pleasant Hill goes to the only school in that area that DIDN'T close (which irritated the heck out of my friend).

Currently we're safe from the fire, just not safe from its after effects. I'm very concerned about people in that area... so much has burned.

@spiderdust It's going to take them a long time to rebuild.

We're getting close to our rainy season, but it hasn't kicked in yet. I'm not expecting us to get any for a couple of weeks at least.

I hope you stay safe and I'm sorry the smoke is making it hard to breathe.

I'm really thankful that we have an air purifier. My parents gave it to us a few years ago when they were decluttering their house.

That's awful, I hope the smoke will be gone soon. I remember how horrible it was when we had serious haze issues here. It was depressing!

I took a kid out yesterday in Martinez. We were able to play some light hoops, but I told him we would NOT compete and really challenge our respiratory systems. We could smell the smoke, and some ash was coming down.
Today, I am at my house (a few miles South of Martinez), and things started well, but now the smoke is getting denser, and I can really smell it. There is only a light wind here (at 10 AM). I was hoping the light wind would help efforts to stop the spread of the fire.

While watching the new Blade Runner movie yesterday, I found it ironic that the poisonous post-apocalyptic air in the film looked a lot like what we're dealing with right now.

So do it. Some of the areas are too hot for firefighters to get too, and over 500 people are still reported missing in those areas.

I used to go visit Santa Rosa all the time when I was a kid. So sad what has happened.
