Do you keep abreast of online jargon? I find it very convenient using the mylot code -emoticons - with my posts, but I am not sure exactly what some of them mean - perhaps I should pay more attention when they are used in the posts of others. Here are three of them: whatever does 'woot' mean? "wub' 'rasp' The emoticon I use the most would be -. Do you find them helpful?

I see that explanations have already been given so I'll bypass repeating. The ones I use most are

Some emoticons are helpful to enhance the meaning of what we are wrigint. WUB is slang, but for this emoticons means love. Rasp is an offense, it's when kids show their language doing a noise like a "rasp". I never use this one, very rude.

@Kandae11 I remember a user wrote a discussion only a few weeks after I joined. She was against the rasp because she thought it is offensive and asked to remove it. Well, you can imagine how many were against saying she was too sensitive, that this is only "a joke" and blah and blah. In my opinion it's offensive.

Thankfully I have never been tempted to use "rasp" - just didn't like the look of it.

@LadyDuck It would certainly add fuel to fire if someone posts a hateful comment and adds "rasp" to it.

Woot I use when I'm excited about something. Wub is when I love something someone said. And rasp is when your sticking your tongue out at someone, being silly like ha ha-I was right.

@Kandae11 It's funny that some of us use them differently, even if just a slight difference.

I do find them helpful. OH NO! Something or someone you love or like a lot. I think this one is self explanatory if you've ever given anyone raspberries. I've used the first two, and the last one occasionally.

I have never seen a raspberry up close . I should have guessed this one because of the eyes. Thanks - I have made a note.

I only use the first one now and then when there is little chance of being misunderstood, especially if I am chatting to a male. I avoid the second one too, it looks too ambiguous to me. (Anything ambiguous is sort of dangerous according to my dictionary! )

Imagine placing one on your post which is the opposite of what you meant? happened to me a couple of times. Luckily I realized my mistake before sending.

@Kandae11 I think I must have used wrong ones before (but being forgetful, I wouldn't know).

I really don't use any but simple ones and rasp is rather fresh and rude so I don't ever use that one. But I have been known to give a hug to two. lol

I see you have your explanations - I didn't know what the wub or woot meant either. I have some great emoticons that I use on other sites, but they won't show up here.

Woot is like saying "yay" I enjoy using them here, in texts, and on Facebook. The one I find offensive is the rasp. It means you are giving the raspberry to someone. Not acceptable in real life or on here to me.

i like the smiley, laughing, ROFLing, sunshine, but i do not like well, that emoji with the tongue sticking out. i would prefer an ice cream in front of that emoji.

That's why I only use the ones I know - there are also some abbreviated words used in text messages and I have no clue what they mean.
