EQUIFAX security breach

Seems like in the past month I have been getting dozens of spam calls regarding my 'credit cards' and how to improve my 'credit score' etc.
Of course, back in September, Equifax announced they had been hacked and 'sensitive' information of over 145 Americans was compromised.
So I visited their site just to check something...and it appears I am one of them.
Which I guess could very well explain why I am getting 10 or more calls a week about this crap now.
I have to admit, what ticks me off the most is I have never given these people (Equifax or any credit agency) permission to store any info about me.
But legally, they can do it.
And then I get crap like this.
Jerks.

I have yet to check out if I am one of those that were part of that mess.

I hadn't really associated the two incidents until a few days ago and then decided this morning to check

@JolietJake so how does one go about checking on this? I am freaking clueless.

@ElusiveButterfly wow, figured out how to do it and they want you to enroll in some protection program.

I got a call already this morning about how to get a lower rate on my card. I played along and when he asked what my credit card number was, I said, "If you're calling me about my credit card, shouldn't you already have that number?" He said, "Well, we just have to verify that it is you who has the card." I said, "I stole the card, does that count?" He hung up. @JolietJake .

Oh my!
Did they do something about it? How was it going now?

They've been pretty tight-lipped about it...once the info was stolen, there wasn't anything they could do about it basically

Since I don't personally do any business with them, I am not sure how they can legally have and store my info, but they can

My info was also stolen. I heard that there is a class action suit against them.

@JolietJake I don't understand it either. You would think they'd need your consent.

I still don't quite understand why they are even allowed to keep that info online without my permission

I've been getting a bit of an attitude with the spam callers lately

I've been getting robocalls with "important information" about my credit card for years... I just hang up. I don't talk to robots.
And the spam from banks other than the one I use saying something or other about my (non-existent) account.
And just last week, I got a letter from my (actual) credit card company offering to up my limit because I'm so good at paying up. No thanks.
