Last week when we were cleaning and organizing I came across a treasure trove of old photos. My maternal grandfather died when I was almost 5 years old. Needless to say, my memories of him are barely there. I can remember how he liked to play with us, the grandchildren and the feeling of love that eminatated from him but nothing else. So image my delight when I came across a photo of him holding my mother when she was a baby. I now know what he looks like and he is such a kind looking man. What a wonderful treasure to find. I am making copies for my girls so they too can have a piece of the past.

@HazySue When my sister divided up the pictures my parents had, I got some unexpected ones as well. My problem is that Mom was bad about putting names on pictures, so I don't know who a lot of the people are in the pictures, except they are relatives.

@just4him my mother didn't write names on them either. I am left guessing who is who.

I think nowdays the children are a little luckier in that they do get to know their grandparents more frequently than we did.

It's nice to have a piece of the past that could remind us of how it was back then. I like looking at our old photos especially when I was still a baby with my siblings. We seemed to be very close back then but now, we just don't care about each other anymore.

Old photos are truly a treasure. We also have old photo albums stashed somewhere in a small corner of the house, sort of a mini library which holds our baby photos and other family memorabilia. Makes me nostalgic seeing one and all I could say is "those were the days of happy memories gone by." Sometimes, it makes me cry tears of joy, reminds me how much I missed those good, old days and the people who had long been gone and wish if only I could turn back the hands of time.

I thought that all of the old photos had been lost or destroyed during the many moves my mother and father made. I had no idea she had them
