When do you start decorating for Christmas?

Christmas is less then 50 days away. When do you start putting up your Christmas decorations? Next weekend, Nov. 18th, is the Santa Claus Parade here. I will start taking my decorations out after that. I usually have my tree up and everything decorated by the 1st week of December. Everything looks so pretty when it is all lit up and decorated. It is nice to have it up for a little while before to enjoy it. I can't beleive it is so close already. The year flew by.

I love your picture! Its so cute-I collect snowmen. I will take down our autumn decorations on Nov 10th, in honour of Remembrance Day. And I don't put anything up for Christmas decorations until some time after that. Bit by bit and usually by early December we're all decked out.

The time has flown for sure. I am a grinch kind of guy I guess. With no grandchildren, we don't do too much. But that is okay with me. Christmas was a less than magic time for me growing up.

I read the title and thought Ohh hush! I'm so not ready for it yet. The one room is torn apart in the middle of painting and such. Anyways a few weeks before Christmas is when I get the tree up normally. Last year it was way late but I'm gonna do it earlier this year.

@Happy2BeMe All of us for the last 5 years got together. This year my daughter said she wouldn't be able to host and no other house is big enough. So I'm not sure what we will all do. Ours is a big house but like the living room will not hold all the family and neither would my table. I need it to be in summer, then we could be outside!! lol

We tend to start decorate in December. We will slowly start thinking about it a little after my eldest's birthday, which is November 18th. We will slowly start planning things after that. For the most part though, our decorations still go up in December.

@Happy2BeMe is there a contest for the best decorations? i love the dual purpose - collecting the children's letters/wishlist and collecting food and coats. how long has this been going on in your area?

It is a parade that is held in the evening. The various business decorate vehicles and transport trucks in holiday decorations. They are all lit up so it is very pretty. There are marching bands as well. The parade lasts about an hour. At the end of the parade Santa arrives and they have the letter carriers collecting all the letters for Santa. Also they have trucks along the route the collect non perishable food for the local food banks as well as winter coats for the people who can not afford to buy them.

I follow the Swiss tradition, I decorate the morning of December 6th, the day of St. Nicholas. In the evening we burn a log in the fireplace, if it burns well, it's a lucky sign.

We usually get our Christmas decorations out, the second week of December. I love having a tree up, with pretty lights outside, around our front windows. It's wonderful time of the year!

We usually wait until about mid-December but leave it up until New Year's Day. When I was growing up, we usually put the tree up on my mother's birthday, Dec. 17. It was a tradition and part of her birthday celebration. :)
