"What is your favorite song?"

I see this as a 'discussion' here often, and I never respond to it.
I got asked this question at facebook this morning, and I answered "Too many to pick just one".
But really, how do you pick a 'favorite' song?
Isn't that kind of like asking "What is your favorite strawberry?" (My answer? Red ones, not green ones 
)
That song might have great lyrics.
This song might have a beautiful melody.
That song may have an unforgettable 'hook'.
But I don't think I can take any one song and say "This is my favorite song".
I might have a favorite song from this band, and one from that band, and one from another.
But lots of times, it is whatever song is playing right now. 
)

I can pretty easily pick my favorite newest song...but man, trying to pick through all I listen to and saying "Yeah, this one right here" just ain't conceivable.

Right at this very moment it's anything by Hildegard von Bingen... no wait! It's "Going Home" sung by Bryn Turfel... or maybe "Ruby Tuesday" by the Stones.... argh! You're right, JJ, can't choose.

I also have lots of songs that are among my list of favorites. But to say that one song is my favorite? No, I don't have one.
I will say that my favorite new song on the radio is Imagine Dragons with Thunder.

I agree, it's impossible to pick just one. I am mean enough though that I would probably respond by listing every song I ever considered a "favorite," until they were sorry they asked.

"Dark As a Dungeon" by Merle Travis.
But I understand what you're saying. A friend asked me to put together a list of my 100 favorite charted songs (and I did for country and pop/rock). It took nine months of debating with myself to come up with the country list.
