Obsession with Photographs of self.

One of my friends and his wife both are obsessed with posting their photographs on Facebook. In their real life they are very simple and reserved and keep limited contacts with others. Wherever they go out, be it a marriage function, party, visit to mall or a excursion trip, they click many pictures, Photoshop it and post it on FB. Sometimes it seems as if they have gone to a particular place or function, just for clicking their pictures and nothing else. In your views what could be the likely reasons for their obsession regarding posting their personal pictures on FB? Are you the one or anyone close to you, who don't mind posting personal photographs on social media platforms (inluding FB) very frequently? Picture courtesy - Google

I do not like posting personal photos on social media and on the Internet in general. People could use your photo to steal your identity.

Yes, you are right that one's personal photographs could be misused by unscrupulous people.

There is no way I'd be doing this. Maybe they feel they are connecting to people in this way.

It is good that you won't this way. Don't you think connecting through people through social media is not a healthy way to connect?

@JudyEv Websites like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter etc. are generally considered as social media websites. Mylot is also a form of Social Media but cannot be compared with the three websites, I have mentioned above. Joint groups on FB has its own advantages and pitfalls.

@dpk262006 I don't really know what 'social media' is. I can't stand Facebook but is myLot a form of social media? I'm happy to connect with people here but from what I've seen of FB it can be very toxic. Maybe some of the groups are okay. Vince likes his photo groups but sometimes even in those groups people get very irate and very rude.

I do that sometimes. I have photos of me in the past and can only be viewed by certain persons.

What makes you post your own pictures on Social Media Platforms? Do you feel that number of likes on your pictures, make you feel good?

A lot of my friend put pictures of themselves and family up on facebook all the time. They do not realize how dangerous it really is.

Some people portray a different personality online. I don't have social media accounts.

It is interesting to hear that you do not have social media accounts. Could you guess what makes certain people to portray a different personality online?

I have so many friends like that. Once my aunt posted 150 photos in a day. Who even has all that time to look at them?

@dpk262006 It is up to them. If they like doing so, just let it be. It is my choice to have a look at it or not

Some people like to display their happiness to the public, that could be one reason. I barely post anything on social media, let alone personal photos.

You are right that posting pictures probably gives happiness to some people. However, you do not believe in posting pictures on social media.

Yes, their real life persona is entirely different from what they project on Facebook and I was just trying to figure out what could be the likely reasons. I understand that your friend is saner.

@FayeHazel Do you mean to say they want recognition in the virtual world as no one give weightage to them in their real life?
