A new music series means a new theme. In this case, songs with "Heaven" in the title. We are at #9: "Knockin' on Heaven's Door."
It's fairly common knowledge, but "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" was written and performed by Bob Dylan for his soundtrack for the 1973 movie, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. It has been named, by The Western Writers of America, as one of the Top 100 Western Songs of all-time.
One of Dylan's most popular tunes, it reached #12 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #5 on that magazine's Adult Contemporary chart. It charted in a total of seven countries.
"Knockin' on Heaven's Door" has been covered numerous times, most notably by Guns N' Roses, who took it to #18 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart, and Top 10 in 13 countries.
Other notable versions include Eric Clapton, The Sisters of Mercy, Warren Zevon, Roger Waters, Bryan Ferry, Avril Lavigne, and The Jerry Garcia Band.
Anyone that knows anything about me already knows which of those versions I've linked to!

I do like the GNR version. I just like what the Sisters did with it more.

Yes. A reggae-ish version. Clapton seemed to like reggae back then.

I liked you played this one. I heard all the others. Besides the original think I like this one the best.

It's probably no surprise, considering my love of the Sisters.

@teamfreak16 Great band and always reminds me Peter from Type O Negative. I like when music influences people in the right ways.

@crossbones27 - Peter had a great voice for what they did. I miss him already.

For some darn reason, I can't get any sound out of these speakers! How aggravating
Have you named Stairway to Heaven yet? I haven't kept up with the other 8 musicians you've written about (Sorry!)

Quite a few artists knocked on that door! Actually enjoyed Dylan's version since he had first dibs.

@dgobucks226 - Axl can be an acquired taste for some. I think his voice fits what they do, but that ego.

And you know which version I like best.
(Seriously, it’s spooky to hear a man who knows he’s dying singing this.)
