Carolers aren't having any luck

Every time I'm walking my way to church I often see kids and teens do their thing to get some buck while singing in front of the house. Unfortunately, no matter how many times they said they were caroling no one seems to be greeting them. That's what I have seen so far. Except this afternoon, when my mom's friends relatives came here today to sing a carol. Not sure how much she gave though but I didn't see them sing. What do you think? Christmas Caroling is a thing of the past?

I've never done this but I've never really lived in a city.

@Letranknight2015 I lived in small towns and in a big city for a short time. Then we managed to get ourselves a small property (5 acres) and now we have 18 acres and are quite isolated really. We can't really see the neighbours but we like it like that.

Some still do it like Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts but I always hated doing it as I was so shy about singing in front of people. It was never done for money though.

@Letranknight2015 just a different kind of holiday tradition I guess. Most people have to spend so much on gifts they probably don't want to pay the carolers.

It is the thing in the past and now it is the kids doing it. I wish I can hear adults singing.

It's been a long time since I've seen carolers. I did it once as a kid, but we never caroled for money, but for the fun it gave us.

Hello @just4him I didn't realize it started to just sing it for fun. Looks like I had a different education about caroling.

@Letranknight2015 Back a long time ago, when carolers were common, if it was particularly cold, the carolers were offered hot chocolate and goodies, but that soon stopped as well. Now, there aren't any carolers anywhere.

Christmas is not what it use to be. Caroling IS a thing of the past. Many people try to economize on Christmas expenses. preferring to splurge instead on New year celebrations.

Hello @josie_ Well, a lot of prices of commodities went up anyways jsut before Christmas came along. So, I don't blame them if they don't get any penny.

I thought Carolers just sang for the love of singing and not money.

Hello @misunderstood_zombie well, that's what I thought too. But from my experience they always expect alms.
