A true story of another pair of Christmas shoes

Just read @LoriAMoore's post about the song, "The Christmas Shoes"
The song is about a little boy whose mother is dying and he wants to buy her some pretty shoes to wear when she meets Jesus.
Around 1910 when my grandmother was a little girl, she had one sister and a baby brother. They were poor, country folks.
Without much health care in those days, her baby brother became very sick. I'm not sure what exactly was wrong with him.
His daddy had recently bought him a pair of white, baby shoes, but the baby passed away at the age of about 14 months before he could even wear them.
He was buried in those little shoes, and on his head stone at the cemetery, there is engraved a tiny pair of baby shoes.
His daddy died just a few years later, and although his wife remarried and had seven more daughters, she never had another son.
It was so heartbreaking that out of nine daughters, the only son never lived to carry on the family name.
Such a sweet family story and one that I think about whenever I see his tiny grave in our church cemetery.

A sad but heartwarming story. You know what? I still have my baby christening shoes.

Thank you, Tiara. Are you all ready for Christmas? It's fairly warm here, just a little rainy.

@1creekgirl Well, it is possible that some of them are still alive. my Mom was born in 1920, the younger of those daughters should be younger.

@JudyEv It was the mother's parents. I don't know a lot about the father's side of the family.

@1creekgirl That is sad. Was it the mother's parents or the father's that they went to live with?

@1creekgirl I hope the mother kept in touch with the two little girls. But then, you don't know other people's stories do you? Not fully anyway.
