2018 Campaign for House of Representatives is Underway

This evening, my husband and I attended our first event for a candidate who is running in our District for U.S. Representative. The 2018 campaign has already begun, and it will get heated from here.
Our current U.S. Representative from District #45 in California is Republican Mimi Walters. My husband and I voted for her twice. However, after some of her recent Congressional votes, including her vote for the new tax plan which will actually cause us to pay higher taxes, we have decided we will support her Democratic opponent this time.
Although four candidates are going to run for the nomination in the Democratic primary, the one who is currently leading the pack is Katie Porter. Katie is a law professor at the University of California in Irvine. She has already been endorsed by Senator Elizabeth Warren, Senator Kamala Harris and Emily's List.
Katie Porter was in charge of the banking settlement in California after the 2009 bank failures and resulting foreclosures. She co-authored a book with Elizabeth Warren. She is bright, well-spoken, and assertive.
Mimi Walters won the last election by 50,000 votes. She had 58.6% of the votes in our very Republican District in California. Since then, her support has fallen dramatically in our district.
According to independent polls, done over December 12 - 13 (before the tax bill passed), Mimi currently has only a 33% approval rating ... lower than Trump's approval rating. In the same poll, when local residents were asked if they would vote for Mimi in the next election or an unspecified Democrat, only 41% said they would vote for Mimi and 44% said they would prefer to vote for any Democrat, instead.
That is earth shattering in our conservative district of Orange County, California, home to Rick Warren's Saddleback evangelical church, and where Republicans have long been in control.
Unlike Mimi Walters, Katie Porter is concerned about election reform, the environment, fair taxation, fixing the Social Security and Medicare shortfalls, protecting Medicaid, and financing other programs which benefit ordinary people, rather than just the wealthy.
It should be an interesting election year. I'm ready to roll up my sleeves and work to support the candidate of my choice and, right now, that candidate is Katie Porter.

Indeed, people need to stop choosing sides because they a Democrat and they for me or they a Republican and they for me. No, listen closely because they could be in disguise and trying to fool you in hopes you will come to be like them. Which at this point s mostly corrupt. Sad to say.

The world is upside down I tell you. I do hope more actually pay attention to what is going on an did even me. Dianne Feinstein made me look closer at her voting record. and she is decent on social issues but her economic issues are more or less what Republicans have wanted to do all along. Rob from the poor and middle class and give to the rich. Not quite as extreme but was not to happy to see some of the stuff she believes helps the middle class and poor. Like hello tried it and it all failed miserably.

@DeborahDiane Yeah and really what upsets me is when people slander awesome Candidates like Bernie Sanders by saying stupid things like socialist this and socialist that and it works, but now they just screwed the country even though is always 1 0r 2 in the nation as people's favorite senator, not just the state of Vermont, in the nation. So people need to also look at why someone is getting so much hate also. Not because they bad, but probably because they extra awesome.
Now on when someone gets that much hate, the first thing I am going to do is pay attention to everything they stand for and I bet it is what the greedy mindsets of this country hate.

@crossbones27 - Yes, I agree. I will certainly be looking more closely at all the candidates who run in our primaries this fall. We need to shake things up!

@DeborahDiane Indeed, sad thing I said that this last election, problem is the country went full on crazy with how they wanted to shake things up. We need to be careful because our enemies always steal what we do right.
