Icy Baptism

A friend on Facebook shared a video showing people in Russia's activity after they cut out a hole in a frozen lake or pond.
This is not for ice fishing but baptism. I was shocked to see a man run up to the hole, where two men grabbed him by the hands and dunked him into the icy water--feet first, until his head was submerged.
They pulled him out--he ran off and the next guy in line was submerged.
This seems so dangerous. I can't see a place for the frozen humans to get warm, and what if the men's hands slipped, the person would be swept away under the ice.
I'm not trying to be disrespectful to someone being baptized, because I think Baptism is wonderful, just to the dunking in the freezing water.
I had to watch this several times before I could actually believe that someone thought this was a great idea and others actually brought the concept to reality.
My friend stated, "they're used to it--they say it keeps the flu away."
Would you go into the frozen water?

I actually would. I am one of those rare kinds that adores the cold and cold water. Thought it could be dangerous I agree. How unusual, thanks for sharing it.

I like the cold better than hot weather, but that would be too much for me. There are a lot of brave people who said they would try it.

I don't think I could! Some people here swear that you can cure flu faster by taking an ice bath or taking a very cold shower but later I read the experts actually advised against doing that.

I would think it might bring down someone's immune system, so they would get pneumonia.

I visited my daughter in Arizona. The motel that I stayed at had an unheated pool. It must have been in the 90s and just hot out but I stuck my toe into that water and screamed. Just ghastly. I'd booked the motel cause of the pool. That water chilled me to the bone.

@misunderstood_zombie I packed my swimsuit when I could have used the room for something else but just one time in that pool was too much for me.

Wow, I also think water is cold even on hot days, but it usually feels normal after awhile.

@misunderstood_zombie It's not a joke. Cold does keep the flu away as the cold weather kills all bacteria.

I'm assuming that was a joke about the flu, and I wouldn't do it either.

Never heard of adults getting baptised and that too in cold water. Is this some kind of ritual?
