Should the owner of two vicious Pitt Bulls go to prison?

On Christmas Eve, a couple were attacked in their own yard by a pair of the neighbor's pit bulls.
The wife was outside alone and her husband came out to help her but he was attacked also.
He shot one of the dogs, but by this time his wife was dead with many fatal bite marks.
I can't hardly think about this happening to that poor woman. What a horrible way to die. How sad for her husband to lose her on Christmas eve.
If people knew they had to pay for their dog's behavior through large sums of money or extreme prison time, they would likely be more responsible.
Do you think the owner should go to jail?

These dogs are so deadly because their jaws are very powerful. I read they can chew through a steel fence. So owners should be required to keep them put up or pay with prison time.

@JolietJake Apparently, the man who owned the dogs was in jail spousal abuse when it happened. I hope he gets in a lot of trouble for having such dangerous dogs, and not supplying them with a secure pen.

I thought it was really bad for the woman to go through such horror. I almost think the owner should go through what the woman did, but that would just make us barbarians.

There are so many pit bulls in the US. It's really sad, because they can be the sweetest dogs, but in the hands of the wrong owner, they're terrible.

Yes. It's not the dogs, it's their owners training them that way.

That's what the dog whisperer says. He always says he trains the owner and teaches the dog.

The owner should certainly be sent to the prison if it is proven that they were the reason for the dogs unusual behaviour.

@misunderstood_zombie Yeah the dogs behavior is because of its owners mentality, but the incident you mentioned was really brutal a man's best friend can also be as such is hard to believe.

I think if more people went to prison for their dog's behavior, they would be more careful with their dogs.

I think he should, and then other dog owner might get a little worried.
