I was drafted to do story time for the kids!

December 31, 2017 12:11pm CST
I was working (only five more shifts) a five hour shift at the book store yesterday, when the manager approached me and asked if I would fill in for Story Time, which is when people bring kids in to be read to. The woman who normally does that was ill. He recalled that I mentioned that I do some acting things and figured I would be a natural. I was only too happy to oblige, took an early break to preview "Ferdinand, the Bull," and then read it aloud with adlib comments to about five kids and moms. Too bad the audience was not larger! Then, I went back and finished my cashier's shift until 1 PM.

Oh wow! "Ferdinand" was one of my favorites when I was a kid. I used to study those illustrations for hours and I loved it when Ferdinand finally stood in the field and ... smelt the flowers! I never would have imagined that a 70 year old children's book would still have been in print but, now that I have looked it up, I see that it was a big success in its day and that there is a film of the story which is in the cinemas now (though the story line has, no doubt, been expanded and I'd be very surprised if it has any of the charm of the old story!)

@JamesHxstatic I find that Disney made a short of the story very early on (in 1938). I don't think I've ever seen it (though I may have done long ago). I must look out for it on YouTube. I believe that that one stuck pretty close to the original story.

There was a mom with a boy who had been to see the movie. They were taking notes on what was different. Another woman with two kids was taking them to see it. The store was having a promotion on the books.

I love that you were asked and you did it. I would have also, even though I am shy, children are the best to read to, I also do voices for each character.

I would have done voices, but there was no dialog.

I could have done it in front of kids but with moms in tow a bit difficult. Is that the image of you and the kids? siva
