Accidentally discovered my basement was flooded

A family friend called me up today asking to borrow my water vacuum because her garage got flooded due to a pipe bursting in her neighbor's garage. I told her that's not a problem.
When she came to my house to pick it up, and I went to my basement to get it, I noticed that my basement was flooded.
Since there wasn't too much water, I quickly vacuumed it up and gave her the vacuum to take home because she needed it more than me at the moment.
Of course, water came back after she left, so I will need to do more vacuuming when she returns it later tonight.
Had she not asked for the water vacuum I wouldn't have gone to the basement and wouldn't have known that it was flooded.
This is not the first time the basement got flooded. I wonder why this keeps happening. The water seems to come from underneath the wall...
I don't think I want to be a home owner... There is always something that goes wrong. Good thing I am just renting this house and it's my parent's other house, so if anything needs to be fixed they can take care of it.

There is always plenty to tend to when you have a home, that is for sure!

Glad you were able to check up on the basement and found the leak/flood.

It must have just happened today because I did laundry a few days ago and the basement was dry. That's where our laundry machines are. And a few days ago I noticed that our kitchen sink has water dripping from one of the basin connectors. Good thing we have a container underneath it (as it leaked from there before) so the cabinet didn't get flooded. But it's one more thing to worry about because we have to keep an eye on the container and empty it out when it gets full. And eventually the issue has to be fixed.

@lovebuglena Yes luckily the container was there. We have a minor leak also. It is raining today for the next few days (hardly rains in CA) but .. we aren't homeowners of this home so luckily it's not for us too!

@infatuatedbby We've got more things that need to get taken care of when it comes to water leaking... Argh!

Owning a home is one long list of maintenance issues sometimes.

Thanks. I definitely don't want any mold in the house.
