Can I play a Mafioso in a movie?

I don't look like what people think of when they see a person of Italian or Sicilian. But, there are blue-eyed people in that part of the world. A local film director has asked me to play the part of an American Mafia "Don" or gang leader in a film he will do in March.
The director, Paul, is gay and some of the characters in the film will be too. Maybe I need to watch Marlon Brando in one of the "Godfather" films to pick up a bit of an accent without going overboard. Now that I think about it, Brando had deep blue eyes.
He sent me the script and I think I have three scenes and not too many lines. It is well-written and quite funny really. What Paul plans to do with this feature length film, I have no idea.
Unlike the photo here, the script is very contemporary, dealing with some high tech issues.
There won't be any pay, I'm sure, upfront, but if it becomes a cult film, who knows?

@JamesHxstatic It's about the only Hugh Grant film I like. It's quite a funny twist on the amiable, stuttering, upper-class Englishman he plays in every film he's in!!

It sounds like great fun, no matter what color your eyes are! We have Italian cousins with blonde hair and blue eyes. We also have Italian family members with black skin....it happens.
