Is it fair to earn from referrals?

I am a member of a site called Wizzley. You publish articles there and are able to earn with Amazon Associates or Google AdSense. They also have this thing where if you refer people to the site (through your referral link) you will get 10% of their earnings for the rest of your life. Not sure if you also get paid for them simply signing up or not.
So, I guess you can just refer people to the site, without really publishing articles yourself and make some money that way. That may be a great thing, but you will only earn if they actually publish articles and earn something from them. So, if they publish nothing, or earn nothing from what they publish, you earn nothing as well.
I have no referrals on Wizzley but I did have referrals on Wikinut. Back when they paid writers, they also had this thing where you earned a % of the earnings of the people you referred to the site. I had a number of people that supposedly joined Wikinut through my referral link, though I can't remember if I actually had my referral link posted anywhere. Maybe all they had to do was go to one of my articles and then join after that and that would count as a referral.
At any rate, I never made anything from any of these referrals because no one bothered to publish anything on the site. So, the fact that they joined through me was useless. I was bummed that they just joined and did not publish anything, ever.
On the other hand, is it really fair to earn from what other people publish? They write, edit, etc. and publish articles, which can take hours, and you earn from that simply because you got them to join through your referral link... I am not sure if I am a huge fan of that.

I think you earn some SB for referring people to Swagbucks... but not sure if you earn anything from their activity. Do you?

I don`t see anything wrong earning from referrals
I earned some good points from Amazon because of some referrals from friends and I think with paypal too

What do you mean by "points from Amazon"?

@m_audrey6788 I am part of Amazon Associates, where I earn when people buy Amazon products through Amazon product links that have my Associates ID in them. Haven't heard of points.

If a site offers to pay for referring people to their site that's great. I am all for it. But not sure if I am for earning from what other people publish. Why should others profit from what we publish on a site?

@lovebuglena getting someone to become active on a website is not easy. I personally would not go through the trouble of convincing people for few bucks only. But I understand your point

@Madshadi It is definitely not easy. You can talk up a game about a site but doesn't mean a person will join. Or the person will join but will forget to do it through your link.

Nothing wrong with getting rewarded when someone signs up through your referral link. Earning a % of what that person earns from his/her posts is something I don't think is fair as they do all the work. On the other hand, we earn here not for what we post but for what others post on what we write. So, it's kinda similar in a way.

@thelme55 You don't really have to write more than 700 words on there. That's not a requirement, but it is better if you do.

@lovebuglena yes,it is a bit similar but not the writing content as we have to write more than 700 words in Hubpages.

Are you satisfied working for Wizzley? Are they good to work with? I have never heard of.

I have some articles there but have not published anything new for a while. I wouldn't call Wizzley work though.
