Not the best thing to go to bed with!
After two nights of next to no sleep, last night I did sleep really well, but tonight I don’t feel sleepy. I guess it’s because I can’t really get comfortable with having the catheter in. I just hope that tomorrow, Monday, they phone to say come into the hospital and we will take it out, fingers crossed.
In the photo is the leg bag which also connects to another bag, a night bag because the leg bag doesn’t hold too much. From what I’ve read online there are different systems, one were you take the leg back off and connect a night bag for when you go to sleep.
I just wondering if anyone else has had to have a catheter in and how did they sleep. I see people all the time in work as I do work in a hospital, but never given it much thought on how you can get comfortable in bed enough to be able to have a good night s sleep.

Sorry to hear about your mum, no it's not the best of things to have but I know I was grateful when I first had it in to drain the fluid off because of the amount of pain I was having. So looking forward to a good nights sleep.

@kevin1877uk Good luck, I hope you can sleep well. Mum had a stroke that left her paralyzed. In one day a very healthy independent 96 years old woman became a vegetable.

@kevin1877uk Yes, not sure what the current situation is no one has informed me. He seems to be in a decent mood though so it can't be too bad.

I can just imagine how uncomfortable it is. My son had one when he had a ruptured AP surgery when he was 9.

Yes, they are the nicest of things, but when we need them we are so grateful for them.

@kevin1877uk I hope I won't have a need for them. I've been told it's painful.

I had one when I was in the hospital having my son. It was miserable.

Thank you, thankfully it's only going to be a short time and I'm sure it won't be long before it's out, but I was most grateful on Thursday for it.

Oh, not looking too good when they take it out. Yes, I hope you never ever have to have one.

No experience in this but it really looks uncomfortable. Hope it pans out right for you soon and it is taken off.

Yes, my night is on the side of the bed. I was in the hospital on Thursday because I couldn't pass water and need a catheter to drain fluid off.

Ouch!! Not being able to pass water can't be too much fun. It's never happened to me but it did once happen to my Dad and he definitely wouldn't recommend it!!
I hope they get you sorted out quickly as I can't imagine sleeping with a catheter is particularly easy!

Thank you, I hope so, no it's not easy sleeping, trying to get comfortable and I can't sleep as I would normally do so that makes it harder.

@kevin1877uk Well yeah, and lack of sleep doesn't help you to feel any better either. Hopefully it will be over soon!!

Oh no, not several months, I totally understand why he didn't sleep well.

@kevin1877uk he didn't sleep well before the catheter....but he also does things just before bedtime that tend to cause sleep issues. (Hours in front of the computer...then bed)

I totally understand that you didn't, they are the best things to get comfortable with. I have slept but it's been broken sleep. I will be so glad when it's out, that is for sure.
