Anne's latest and quite different art quilt

St. Vincent De Paul is a (mostly) world-wide charity organization which has thrift shops and works with homeless people and more.
When it started getting cold and rainy here, they put up a large tent where 20 homeless people can find shelter and food. They drew names from applicants and the winners must agree to be there by 5 PM and leave at 7 AM. It is across from their "service station" where showers and laundry facilities are provided.
This newspaper article in November coincided with the latest regional art quilt challenge called " Dusk to Dawn." Just yesterday, Anne put the finishing touches on her quilt inspired by the article and calling attention to the homeless situation in our town (and around the nation).
This quilt has some really unusual materials in it. The orange fencing you see is from a bag that oranges came in (Anne had it stored away, "in case.")
She treated newspaper and cardboard so she could sew on them. She also used tarp, blanket scraps and drawings on fabric.
I hope you can see the tents, sleeping bags and makeshift shelters. I really like that skyline too.
If accepted for the show, it will travel for three years.
I wish you could see it in a larger size. It is about 38 inches by 42 inches (.965 X 1.06 M). She submits photos to be juried that can be enlarged. Click on photo to enlarge a bit.
After a comment, I will post a close-up of a portion in that section.

Yes, she sometimes hangs some fabric on her design in the early stages and asks me what I think. All I can see is the fabric, not what she sees at all.

@JamesHxstatic I can never 'see' what the creative people can see either. I try to dodge such questions but it's a bit hard sometimes.

Thanks @DainneN Yes, that skyline is a bit surreal and I like that a lot. The detail in it of all the people and tents and cardboard shelters is really interesting.

I just love seeing her quilts - they are so creative! The ones I see from friends are the usually patterned "common" quilts . . . not that I have anything against them, but I truly appreciate these artistic ones. She is so talented! I didn't know you could treat papers so they can be sewn, I'll have to look into that!

She used a matte paste of some kind that she read about along with a fusible on both sides (she said).

as i was scrolling from the top down i was starting to think it's an urban setting, and as i read the text, yes, it is. i guess i'm used to seeing nature in her quilts. artists are so resourceful. they always see possibilities in any material.

Yes, the skyline is there and a freeway. Under the freeway are many little tents.

This is spunky!! A real fascinating contemporary piece of art. This is truly outstanding!!! And I'm not just saying that to get points. She should really consider getting it displayed in show featuring contemporary artists!!! Call local galleries. If you need more info or help, I will help you, Art like that does not belong in a closet!! You'll be hearing back from me in a message!!! How is Ann by the way?!

Wow, well thanks very much! I just read this to her and she was delighted. If it gets into this show she made it for, it will be on a world tour being shown in a lot of places. I have written about a number of her pieces here.
She is doing some better now, but this virus wants to hold on. She is on Prednisone for the cough for a few more days.
